Prologue

Daniel, known by his friends as Danny, was not a particularly passionate man in his youth. He did not play sports, or spend much time with other children. And, despite being an earthbender, never felt a significant amount of pressure to master his gift. However, if there was one thing that motivated him beyond anything else, it was pride in his country. Something about supporting the place where he was grown called to him, And as such, it only made sense that when he reached maturity, he joined the military.

Just before he was slated to head off for war however, he was approached by a strange pair of men, who claimed to be working for the government. They asked to interview him, and during the process it became clear how deeply Danny loved the Earth Kingdom.

It was that loyalty that eventually attracted more… influential sponsors. Long Feng saw great potential in him, and, faced with the prospect of serving his country further, Danny joined the Dai Li.

For years, Danny served faithfully. Pushing himself to learn and control the his powers, and leading his group of men to serve the Earth Kingdom and further it’s goals. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

His home was gone. Yes, after a century Ba Sing Se had officially fallen. It had taken one hundred years, and technically the walls had never been broken, but that was little comfort to the damned souls now residing under Fire Nation rule. Whether or not the city fell through a hard fought battle or underhanded trickery was inconsequential.

Princess Azula of the Fire Nation had infiltrated the city posing as a Kyoshi Warrior, and after a game of mental wills was played between herself and Long Feng, took control of the Dai Li.

Danny was absolutely furious. How dare those men betray the Earth Kingdom? Did they have no loyalty to their country? But alas, among the Dai Li he was outnumbered, and the sadistic girl won the majority of his men over.

Unfortunately for her, she did not realize it was not an unanimous decision, and in her arrogance, happened to appoint the squad led by Danny to the task of returning her and her handmaidens to the Fire Nation. Ba Sing Se may have fallen, but Danny would make sure Azula the Princess would pay for the destruction of his home.
