In the year 20XX, an event, which was later recorded in history as The Leveling Day, has changed the world forever. Dozen of space-time gates appeared around the world. Governments tried to send the military in, but no one could enter the gate. After 7 days, an incident (which was later called Dungeon Break) occurred: monsters came out from the gates and slaughtered humans. These monsters had an unnatural resistance against guns and explosives. In less than a year, 30% of the population was killed.
At the same time, boys and girls around the world randomly received superpowers on their 18th birthday. After researching, the scientists have discovered:
- The rate of being Awakened in male was 5%, in female was 50%.
- The Awakened Ones could enter the gates and kill monsters. Inside the gates, there was a magical realm called Dungeon.
- After all monsters in the Dungeon were killed, the gates would permanently close.
18 months after The Leveling Day, the UN has made United Nations Security Council Resolution 5200, which legally allowed Awakened Ones to use their powers in public, under the condition that they belonged to an officially registered Hero Guild.
The Hero Guild has two duty:
- Raid any Dungeon appeared in their area.
- Subjugate any Awakened One who used their power illegally (who were called villains).
Moreover, to increase the number of Awakened Ones, governments have changed a lot of policies. Polygamy became legal again. All normal women of fertile age must have at least one child every three years, or they would be fined $10,000. All male fetuses would be aborted (a couple must acquire a special license to have a baby boy).
This story started at our main character's 18th birthday.
