My Witch Girlfriend

As Jake gathered his stuff for class he couldn’t stop his hands from shaking. His stomach churned under the anxiety of what he had planned today.

“Don’t over think it, Jake.” He told himself, “Stick to the plan and the worse she can say is no. Hopefully.”

Jake ran through his plan in his head again. Today was the day he finally planned to ask out Anna. The two of them had been friends since high school, but something changed in Jake’s head when they started going to college. Suddenly, he felt different around Anna. Her jokes were the same as they’d always been, but Jake found himself hanging off her words more. She looked the same as ever, but now the image of her brushing her red hair behind her ear stuck in his head. He was suddenly much more aware of when they’d stand next to each other, and her arm would brush against his. He now felt like he needed to be with her, but he couldn’t risk their friendship. So, he’d start with that and hope that his confession wouldn’t cause things to become awkward between them.

Jake arrived at the class that him and Anna ended up sharing this semester, History funnily enough. However, Jake wasn’t focused on the lecture, he found himself unable to tear his eyes away from Anna. Did she always bite her lip like that while focusing?

As the lecture wrapped up, Jake’s heart began racing again. He steadied his nerves as he and Anna packed up their stuff.

“Hey, Anna. Would you mind if we headed somewhere a bit more private to talk before lunch? I have something personal I need to ask you.” Jake said.

“Yea, no problem. I think I know a stop around here, that shouldn’t have anyone around.” Anna replied.

After they finished packing up, Anna led Jake to stairwell. While the door to the roof was empty, Anna said nobody to come up their for a while.

“So, what’s on your mind?” Anna asked.

“Anna… We’ve been friends for a while, and I never want to do anything to put our friendship at risk. But, lately, I’ve keep catching myself thinking of you as more than a friend. I… Well, I think I love you Anna. So, would you maybe want to go out as more than friends sometimes?”

Anna eyes were wide, a light blush on her cheeks, “Oh, Jake. I’m so sorry, but I’m not into men. I’m a lesbian.”
