Chapter 1

9:30 AM, Sunday, Suburban Tokyo.

It was a Sunday morning, and everything was normal at the Abiko house. Misaki Abiko is the single mother of 18-year-old Akihiko, who's in the third year of high school. Akihiko is a very smart boy; he has been at the top of his class since grade school. Akihiko has only one hobby, and that is studying! His mother, his teachers, and his friends are very certain about his future; they say he's definitely going to be rich and successful.

Today, Akihiko woke up late because it's Sunday; he only has cram school at 5 PM. He gets ready and comes into the kitchen for breakfast, where he finds his favorite aunt, Sachiko. Sachiko isn't related to the Abiko family; she is Misaki's childhood best friend. For Akihiko, she is just like a second mother. Sachiko is married and has one daughter called Hina. Sachiko loves Akihiko as much as she loves Hina.

Sachiko: "There he is, my handsome son."

Akihiko: "Good morning, Auntie."

Sachiko: "How is school and cram school going, dear? Knowing your dedication towards studying, I know everything is going smoothly."

Akihiko: "Yes, Auntie. You came alone. Why didn't Hina come?"

Sachiko: "You know how lazy she is. Probably, she is still in bed now."

Akihiko: "Come on, Auntie, it's Sunday, so it's okay to be a little bit soft on her."

Misaki: "Aki, do you have cram school today?"

Akihiko: "Yes, Mom, at 4 PM."

Misaki: "Sachi and I are going shopping. Can you have your lunch outside, please, dear?"

Akihiko: "Sure."

"Again?" Akihiko thought. "Mom is going out for shopping a lot lately. She bought herself new clothes nearly every week for the last 2-3 months. She bought me so many clothes and even gave me a PS5 for my birthday. I hope she got her finances sorted." Akihiko wondered.

Misaki is a clerk in a small property agent office. She raised Akihiko all by herself, doing this job alongside some other part-time jobs since she divorced her drunken, womanizing husband. They were always in a financial crunch, but she provided everything for him. However, she has been spending a lot of money in the last 3-4 months.

Sachiko: "Oh, Aki, I forgot to ask you if the old scooter Uncle gave you is helping."

Akihiko: "Thanks to Uncle, because of that scooter, I am saving nearly 1 hour commuting to my cram school. I am going to come to your house and thank him personally next Sunday."

Sachiko: "Yeah, it's been ages since you haven't come to our home."

Akihiko: "It's been only two months."

Misaki: "Let's go, Sachi."

Sachiko: "Okay, let's go."

Misaki: "I will be back at 7 and cook dinner for you."

Akihiko: "Okay, bye. Enjoy!"

Sachiko: "Bye, honey, take care. I'll see you this Sunday at our house; come for dinner. I will make your favorite dish."

Akihiko: "Okay, Auntie."

Misaki and Sachiko left the house. After breakfast, Akihiko went to his room to study. After 15 minutes of walking, Misaki and Sachiko reached the station and waited for the train.

Sachiko: "Where should we go?"

Misaki: "Let's go to Harajuku Takeshita Street."

Sachiko: "Are you kidding me? It's so expensive there. We should go to the Ameya-Yokocho; we can buy affordable clothing there."

Misaki: "Don't worry about money; I will be buying you and Hina dresses, so just choose."

Sachiko: "You're earning good money, aren't you?"

Both Misaki and Sachiko laughed.

Sachiko: "By the way, Saki, did you tell Aki that you left your clerk job?"

Misaki: "No, I haven't. There is no way I can tell him about my current work."

Sachiko: "Yeah, you're right."

Misaki: "Let's go; the train is arriving."

They both boarded the train and found their seats.

Sachiko: "Hey, Saki, I know this isn't a good spot for this conversation, but Aki is almost an adult now, and in six months, he'll be in university, so he will move out."

Misaki: "Yeah, I know. Time has really flown by. I remember Akihiko and Hina's first day at kindergarten; it feels like it was just yesterday."

Sachiko: "Don't change the subject, Saki. I meant after Aki moves out, you should marry again. With your beauty and curvy figure, you can easily find some financially stable middle-aged man."

Misaki: "Wow, Sachi, even you know about my work. How can you say that?"

Sachiko: "Because I am worried about you, Saki. I think now you have a decent amount of money; you should quit this job so in the next two to three years, you will be able to find a man who accepts you and will marry you."

Misaki: "I can't, Sachi, because I want to support Aki in every way. I don't want to start his life with student loans; I want to pay his college tuition fees, and without this work, I can't get that sort of money."

Sachiko: "But, Saki."

(Misaki interrupted Sachiko with her looks.)

Sachiko: "Okay, Saki, but promise me after his tuition fees are paid, you will quit this work and settle down."

Misaki: "Yeah, I promise."

Sachiko: "Okay."

Misaki: "But I really enjoy this work, though." (said sarcastically)

Sachiko: "Oh, shut up, you moron."

They started laughing.

They reached their destination, boarded off the train, left the station, and entered the shopping district. After 5 hours of studying, Akihiko got ready and left for the cram school. Kwagoe cram school is prestigious; their students' top university acceptance rate is over 95%. But this cram school fee is pretty expensive. Akihiko was left stunned after his mom gave him a check for his cram school tuition fee and asked, "Mom, really, can we afford this?" Then Misaki told him, "Don't worry about money; focus on studying."

After 20 minutes of scooter riding, Akihiko reached his cram school. After two hours of classes, other students started leaving, then Akihiko began to put his laptop and notebooks in his bag. Then he saw a group of boys in the corner, so he thought there was something interesting and joined them. The boys were watching a porn movie. His eyes were red, and his body was shaking uncontrollably.
