Living in Laminate

You blink awake, seeing a single light bar above you. Groaning you sit up, head ringing from what must’ve been a brilliant night out. You look around, wondering where you are.

Brilliant white walls line the small room you have been resting in. A door, also white, with a letterbox-sized slot at eye level. Your bed, again white, slim and reminding you of being unnervingly similar to a hospital bed is actually a lot comfier than it looks. A bedside table with plastic flowers makes you smile at the bright flowers inside. No windows but with how white everything is, it’s not really needed. You spot a free-standing mirror, full-length but angled so you have to be out of bed to see it. You swing your legs out of bed and stand, feeling another rush of dizziness hit making you stagger. Stumbling you start to make it towards the mirror only for a knocking on the door distracts you.

You decide to see who it is and try to get to the door, a muffled voice barely making it through the door. As you make to the door the knocking stops, licking dry lips you try to call out only for a croak come out of your mouth. Panicking you hit on the door. A knock answers you, making you hit again. The slot opens up making you blink as a pair of eyes stare back at you, surprised. “Oh! You’re awake sooner than expected! Hang on, I’m coming in!” A bubbly voice tells you, making you step back hurriedly as the door opens and a woman dressed in Latex enters.

As you take her in you feel another rush hit you, she sees you sway and quickly rushes to your side, leading back to bed. “You shouldn’t be walking around so soon, you’re still recovering!” She scolds you, tone concerned. You blink tiredly but manage the raspy “Mirror..” making her blink but nod. Moving with a squeak of her outfit she wheels the mirror over to you, allowing you to see who you are.
