In the Library

A lady and her need of books

Chapter 1 by zaick zaick

(After some hiatus, I've returned to writing. In light of having a more busy job life of, well, writing, I've decided to focus on actually finishing some of these scenarios rather than having the originally intended 50-100 endings. I've always intended to have a focus on choice, but honestly, I just don't have time for that. So! Over the next couple months expect my stories to actually have some finished choices, and I can expand from there. Thanks!)

Cora had a long dream - to see the rare books kept in the locked away room on the third floor of her town's library. There were lost relics of the second world war, first editions of classics, and likely many other things she never heard rumors of. Of course, the issue was only scholars from the University could go in and out of the locked room. Most librarians even could not enter.

She just wanted to see them, and asked repeatedly in her youth, but always was told no. Now, however, she had a plan. She was here on orientation, and the library had turned her loose to explore and report back in a couple hours later. She was EXPECTED to walk around the library, with all its tall shelves of quiet books. She was expected to be curious about locked doors.

She did not have a huge plan. She wanted the job, of course, though she did not want to wait years for a chance to walk into a room with such treasures.

Cora straightened her glasses. She had on a pair of stockings and a lengthy skirt and white blouse covered by a sweater. She was a librarian now, and she looked the part. Before she delved deep into her role, however, she had to finish her dream for coming back here over and over. She had to get into the room. She knew there was a key, or perhaps a code, and she had to figure out what it was to get in. Then, she actually had to get in and out without being seen and losing her job. If she acted during orientation, people would actively be looking for her, and there were more people here. She wait until late at night, however, an hour or so before they closed, when the library had a few less people around.

When does Cora decide to find the key?
