Harry Potter & the Ability to Change
Introduction
Chapter 1
by Candorzz
Harry.
I hope this finds you well.
First, I must congratulate you on your recent victory over Tom. I cannot begin to comprehend what you & yours have been through. When pondering this reality, I was reminded of an item that has been in my family’s possession for some time now.
Stories told to me by generations past, tell of this ring’s great power to alter reality to the whims of its wearer, all the experts to whom I have spoken confirm that this ring is, in fact, magical, but cannot confirm the nature of its enchantment. However, it has never worked for me or anyone else in my family that I can confirm. Regardless, the ring is a truly fine piece of jewellery & I have enclosed it with this letter as a reminder that you, my young boy, can do anything you wish.
With all my thanks for your efforts these past years.
Your Humble Sponsor.
The letter had appeared in Harry’s bag once he was on board the Hogwarts Express for his 8th year at Hogwarts.
Harry looked at the small package that had arrived with the letter. Reaching across the table & picking it up, he tipped the contents into his hand. Inside was a simple golden band with 5 rubies set equally around the circumference of the ring all wrapped in a Celtic knot design engraved into the ring’s surface.
Taking the ring between his thumb & forefinger, Harry slipped the ring on. It was a perfect fit.
As soon as the ring was in place, Harry could feel its power radiate through him, & with it a measure of understanding. Why this understanding had come to him and not the dozens of others that this mysterious sponsor professed had worn this ring in the past was beyond Harry at that moment, but he did gain a working knowledge of how the ring was to function.
First, he needed a quote-unquote ‘Spiritual component’, in other words, the magical power innate to the ring, the second thing he needed was a ‘Cognitive component’ which would be his own intent/will to enact change, the third and final thing would be a ‘Physical Component’, he needed to create some object which he could use to symbolize these changes, a note pad would likely be best, in order to write down the changes he wanted to enact to avoid any uncertainty.
After rooting through his things, Harry produced an old beat-up journal that he had purchased a few years back that he had intended to write some sort of journal in, but he had given up after a few entries. Flipping the first few pages open, Harry tore out the pages that had been used for his failed attempt at journaling.
The question now was what to write. He couldn’t change the past in any great way, making slight alterations would be possible but he wouldn’t be able to remove the events that had shaped him. Even still, he could enact great change for the betterment of society writ large. But this sponsor had written of his own sorrow as to what Harry had experienced, which made Harry want to enjoy himself especially as his mind drifted to the lewder options before him.
Picking up his quill, Harry wrote.
