God of War: Thirsty Gods

Watered down fun

Chapter 1 by gorel29 gorel29

Staring out her office window down to the training grounds where the rest of the Valkyrie and warriors were training, Sif narrowed her eyes in frustration to find her daughter practicing her sword swinging into a block of wood hanging from a chain. At her feet were a pile of woodchips that only grew ever slowly taller with each thwack of her sword against the now sundial shaped log. She was not taking the of her father very well. Actually she wasn't taking it well at all. All she had done after the of Thor and Odin was train and work out and pick fights with whomever gave her a dirty look across the training grounds. Some of these little scraps had gotten so bad that the Valkyries had to intervene.

"Like daughter like father it seems..." Sif whispered to herself as she turned away from the window and went to her desk to go over the paper work of treaties and agreements she had to look over and sign. With the of Odin, she was now the defacto ruler of what remains of Valhalla... No thanks to that machine and his son. Where the two of them were no one could say. The two had scurried off somewhere after leaving for the world tree to parts unknown.

"Good riddens... Maybe they'll wander off to the Isles to our west and give the fairy folk a run for their money."

"WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!" She heard the familiar tone of her daughter's voice outside. Sitting up from her chair, she poked her head out the window again to find three Valkyrie hold back her daughter's wrath as she flailed kicking and screaming while one of the locals cowered behind one of the winged guards like a mouse hiding from an angry cat. Frowning, Sif stormed back to her chair and collapsed into it, sighing with a hand over her brow. Leaning back in her chair and staring up at the ceiling, Sif huffed in annoyance. Her daughter was a bowstring pulled back for too long, sooner or later she was going to strike something she can't take back or worse, snap!

"That little lady needs to unwind, otherwise she's going to become a giant problem."

Giant...

A thought came to mind when she quickly got back to her feet and went to her personal quarters. Crouching down to a few loose floor boards next to the bed, Sif smiled when she spotted her husband's old stash under the floor. Giant's mead. Her husband had stolen a few bottles in his youth from the giants during the war and had made a habit of the drink for many years. During those years he was making the skies thunder and spent his days smashing apart mountains... And the nights he was smashing HER! It was what made her a mother of three after all. A smirk drew from her lip from those fond memories as she gathered the bottles and brought them with her to her work desk.

She had 5 bottles in her possession as she checked their contents to make sure they were full. Taking a step back she thought hard on a plan. The mead had a dangerous drawback though, continued drinking would made a person bigger, meatier, and about as rational as an ox in a percaline shop. Thor was never known for his diplomatic skills after all, but at least he knew how to have fun. If only she could find a way of making her daughter mellow out without turning her into some mountain troll of a woman. The idea of seeing her sweet child Thrud stomping around the training grounds as big as her father made the blond goddess shiver with regret.

"There has to be a way to get my daughter to loosen up without being so big she has to duck just to get into a room."

Snapping her fingers, Sif got an idea and had gone to get a pitcher of water and several spare bottles from the kitchen. Filling the extra bottles with water, she opened the bottles filled with giant's mead and poured a small amount into the half full bottles of water, corking them shut and swirling them to water down the alcoholic beverage. When she was done, she now had 15 bottles of the now watered down giant's mead at her disposal. If she were lucky, the watered down drink would have watered down effects.

"Alright then now to see if..."

"MOM!"

Right on queue..."

Hearing her daughter storm into her office and slamming the double doors wide open, the wild haired warrior girl marched her way over to her mother, fuming and red faced with anger.

"When are you going to do something about those Midgard refuges in our city? The one down in the training grounds nearly hit me with an axe and I wasn't even his opponent!"

Seeing this as an opportunity, Sif opened the first bottle close to her and poured two drinks from a pair of wooden mugs she had with her.

"Now, now my daughter, its only temporary until we can find them someplace permanent. You look parched, care for a drink?"

Snatching up the mug and giving it a sniff, Thrud eyed the beverage cautiously as she eyed her mother. "What's this? Smells like tree sap."

"Oh this is a local drink from those from Midgard, I've garnered a taste for it myself, it's a bit of a grog but it does have a lovely flavour."

Scrunching her face at the answer, Thrud shrugged her shoulders and took a sip. After a few more sips of the beverage, her demeanor already lightened up as her cheeks looked less fiery red in rage and more fiery red from the . "Wow, this isn't so bad... What did I come in here for again?"

"Some idiot on the training grounds tossed an axe at you by accident."

"Right... Huh, suddenly it doesn't seem so bad anymore."

Smiling as she swirled her drink, Sif watched her daughter go from furious to a giggling fool by the time her drink had been finished.

"Well, it's good to see you've calmed down, the banquette hall will be serving dinner in an hour, I expect your BEST behavior young lady."

"Yes mooooom." Thrud smiled, shaking her head as she left her mother's office, still giggling as she left Sif's sight.

Smiling, the woman went back to the bottle and carefully poured her drink back into it, not wanting to waste a drop. Counting the bottles with her finger, she did some mental mathematics with what she had to see how long she could do this.

"Hmm, with any luck I might have that daughter of mine finally be married off and give me grandkids."
