"So what do you think?" Gina asked.

A single tear ran down Lucian's cheek. He let it fall, unwiped, his eyes on the TV. His wife May sat beside him on the well-worn sofa, but her eyes were clear. Like her husband, she didn't look away from the television, clearly transfixed by the show. Husband and wife held hands, tightly, but they didn't look at each other, only at the screen.

"I've got something to tell you", Gina had announced at dinner. "Well, mostly to show you". She'd been nervous all day, but it had seemed like the quite reasonable anxiety of having dinner with your parents and your boyfriend. She avoided their eyes until they were gathered in the family room later.

"Mom, Dad, Linc, I've decided that I need to stop hiding who I am, at least from you three. You are the people I love the most in the entire world, and I know you'll love me and respect my choices, no matter what they are”.

"Dad, Linc, I know this is going to be the hardest on you two, my dad and boyfriend, but you need to know that everything you see tonight is the real me, the one I've been hiding from you for so long. I don't want to be afraid anymore, I want you to know all of me, the real me, even the parts that may be shocking or surprising. Keeping secrets from you is not good for me, and not good for our relationship."

Beside Gina on the table was her laptop. She connected it to the TV, and double-clicked on a video file. "It will much simpler if I show you", she said. She was nervous. "But I have to ask you, watch first, then we'll talk afterwards”.
