Chapter 1: A newfound power

I should be dead, that is the conclusion my doctors gave me when I woke up in the hospital after a five-day-long coma. My memories of the last few days were nothing more than Darkness, with a subtle green glow. I had fallen into a water cave on a camping trip with my school in the mountains. Luckily the water of the river in the cave had broken my fall, but the current was so rough that the river should have drowned me. Instead of that, I washed up on a river bank, with brushes everywhere. I had fractured my left leg and broken 2 ribs. When I woke up, my mother cried at my bedside. My older and younger sister who both following college classes came as soon as my mother made the phone call. The same applied to my aunt and my two younger twin nieces. My father and his brother had fought and died in the army during the Iraq War. So we were all familiar with and the fear of losing someone. That's why everyone couldn't stop cuddling me when I woke up. We only got each other, and as the only male in the family, I was a rare specialty.
