Date Night

I didn't know how long the phone had been ringing since I was in the shower. But I heard at least three rings when I stepped out of the bathroom. I hurried to the phone and answered it. "Hello?"

"Is this John?" a voice asked.

I frowned, trying to place the voice. It sounded familiar, but I couldn't think where. "This is John."

"This is regarding the entry for the contest. We're pleased to inform you that you are the grand prize winner. Congratulations, sir! You have won a date with a Hollywood actress!"

I was stunned. I didn't think I had any shot at it. "Are you serious? Is this a joke?"

"I can assure you this isn't a joke. We'll pick you up tomorrow morning at the address you provided. When you get to our office, you'll select the lucky lady."

I couldn't wait.

The next morning, I was ready to go. I had my suitcase packed and ready, waiting for my ride. Around 9 am, there was a knock on the door. I answered it and a man in a dark suit walked in. "Ready to go, sir?"

"You bet."

He handed me a list of the celebrities I could choose to go on the date. "Please make your selection. Once you do, I'll call your lucky lady."
