Assimilating the Borg
The Borg finally meet their match
Chapter 1 by protoborg
As the vessel floated there, they Borg swarmed over it inside and out. The ship would make an excellent recon ship. Sleek, fast, heavily armored. Perfect for finding new species to assimilate. Captain Alex Doe continued to watch as the Borg cube sent more and more drones to the alien craft. He knew this was his only chance to deal a blow to the Borg like nothing they had ever felt before. Captain Doe sent a message to the Queen. Within moments, a mere fraction of a second really, he had his answer. He was to proceed with the counter-assimilation of the alien ship and to ensure the Borg Queen saw and understood what she now faced in the galaxy. No more would innocent people be assimilated by the Borg. No longer would innocent worlds be stolen by the Borg. No longer...
[Loud beep]
"Sorry, My Queen. I was merely..."
[Loud beep]
"Yes, My Queen."
Cpt. Doe turned to his first officer, Commander Smith, and gestured for her to begin the mission. The first officer, having heard the Queen's messages herself, nodded briskly and turned towards the turbolift at the back of the bridge. She stepped efficiently towards the door and into the lift. Tilting her head just the very slightest bit, she signaled the computer to take her to the main transporter room. She would be met there by the Chief engineer and the chief of security. Ordinarily, the first officer would not be accompanied by such high-ranking officers, but this was a priority mission from the Queen herself. It required the most experienced officers to carry out. The turbolift arrived on deck 6 and the doors opened. The three officers stepped out and walked across the hall to the main transporter room. Sharing a passing glance with the transporter chief, the three officers stepped up onto the transporter pad and within a few seconds vanished into thin air.
On the alien ship the three officers rematerialized. They knew to not draw their weapons until needed as to maximize their odds of being left alone by the Borg drones already on board. The three had been beamed into the alien engine room as that seemed to be the area of least activity. Borg drones generally assimilated the engine room, bridge, and other key systems first then moved on to assimilate the rest of the ship. This ship was no exception. Commander Smith gestured to the other s to spread out and begin looking for survivors. She knew just as well as anyone else that there would be none, but it was a place to start.
Where do they go first?

The Borg Collective had for centuries been a thorn in the side of many Alpha quadrant civilizations; The Federation, the Klingons, even the Romulans. All had faced the Borg and their menacing geometrically-shaped ships. While Captain Janeway's destruction of the Borg transwarp conduit network had dealt a crippling blow, it did not take the Borg long to rebuild. This was their strength. This was also their weakness. The Borg and their endless pursuit of perfection often missed opportunities to advance themselves that might have given them the advantages that would have made them truly unstoppable. Sadly, for the Borg, a new culture has arisen that will prove to be the Borg's ultimate downfall and it ain't Species 8472. No, the Undine will not be seeing victory over the Borg this time. Find out who poses a threat to the mighty Borg Collective and how they will ultimately bring peace and unity to the galaxy.
