A Second Chance

Mike stood there stunned. The woman of his dreams, his high school sweetheart, had just broken up with him and the only explanation he got was an "It's not you, it's me."

She was the only girl that he had ever dated and he had been ready to propose. As he watched her walk out of his life he didn't know what to do. Mike stood, motionless and numb, staring into space long after she was gone. Eventually, his body started to move on autopilot and before he knew it he was back home in his tiny apartment.

Mike grabbed a beer and sighed. He had two years left in college and though only 20 and knowing his life wasn't over, he sure felt like it was. He got up and stared at himself in the mirror. He had always been attractive and relatively fit; he knew that he could easily find someone to date but he just had no urge to at all. It felt like opening up to someone again was just a waste of time that would only come back to hurt him again.

Mike continued looking at himself in the mirror for a few more moments then came to the decision that he was done with dating. He didn't want to feel like this ever again and refused to be hurt. He knew that time would make things better, but that didn't help him right now. He needed to get his mind off of things before he started to feel too sorry for himself and spiraled into complete depression.

He decided to put all of his time into school to graduate as fast as he could and what free time he did have he would put into the gym to vent his anger.
