Welcome to the quaint viking island village of Berk where it snows eights months out of the year and hails the other four. If someone were to ask you to describe the location you would tell them that it is "...just south of freezing to and far north of absolute nowhere, a place fit for only the strongest and hardiest of people, but we vikings make do with it". You are Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III altgough you tend to shorten it to Hiccup Haddock and most people you know, which is quite alot when you live in a close knit village of only a couple thousand at best, call you Hiccup. You are the son of Stoick the Vast, a man so named because he is twice as tall, twice as wide, and twice as strong as most of the other men in the village with many believing that his father who was absent for most of his life was a giant that had relations with his mother before being to return home, and he is the current chief of Berk making you the next in line for the job. When you have to compare yourself to your dear old dad you tend to say that you are cut from the same cloth but a different pattern seeing as you are taller than the average viking just like him, but you have a more lean and acrobatic musculature rather than the bulky wall of muscle that your dad has.

There aren't that many problems in Berk, but there are still problems. The most common ones are making sure everyone has enoigh firewood to warm their house in the winter, pray to Freya that the harvest is abundant enough so no one starves to , and then there is the biggest problem of all the dragons. Dragons are an all female species of various draconic races that visit Berk every so often to steal livestock, set fire to a random house or two...or ten, it depends on the day, and the men of the village to keep their numbers up and maybe take the ones they like best back home with them. The most feared dragons are the Twin Furies, a pair of dragons made up of the night fury, a black dragon often referred to as the spawn of lightning and itself, and the light fury, a white dragon said to be able to appear and disappear at will in a clap of thunder and a flash of lightning like a bolt from Thor himself come to life. This has your way of life for the past 19 years and is how it qill continue for a long time to come.. or so you think.
