Pazaak Gone Wrong

Pazaak Gone Wrong

Or, possibly, very very right.

Chapter 1 by mizuryu mizuryu

It was a fairly standard day on the Resolute as Ahsoka went wandering around for a bit. There'd be more droids to pummel when they got to their destination, but even with hyperspace travel, it'll take a few more days. With all that said, Ahsoka had a bit of an unusual problem for a Jedi.

She was bored stiff.

Boredom was not an emotion that she'd had much account to get used to as Skyguy's padawan, what with his life sometimes seeming like a series of Action Holos, but even Anakin Skywalker's penchant for getting into trouble couldn't strike EVERY day. That's not to say that Ahsoka didn't have her own things to do when she wasn't getting shot at, but the problem was that even those options had found themselves voided over the last couple days.

There was Saber practice, but that had diminishing returns after a while, and frankly she was on the verge of overtraining herself this week anyway. She needed to rest her body.

She had a few games and books downloaded on her datapad. But she'd forgotten to refresh her stock when she was last on coruscant, so she'd already read the books and the games could only hold her attention for so long. Most games weren't exactly programmed with Jedi reflexes in mind.

There was meditation, but while she wasn't as averse to sitting still for long periods as Anakin was, the idea of just meditating for the next few days had her willing to risk a lecture about overtraining herself again instead.

She could see if the clones were doing anything interesting? Ahsoka paused for a second as she considered that.

Hmmm, she might be able to learn something from them, or even just find out what THEY do when they've got some unexpected downtime between battles. If nothing else, she certainly wouldn't complain about spending some time with her comrades WITHOUT blasterfire streaming overhead.

Her mind made up, she started on her way towards the barracks, even noting that this action 'felt' right with the ****. It wasn't anything like a major premonition, just a sort of approving feeling that she got every once in a while when she acted like she thought a Jedi should.

...aaaaand occasionally when she's about to do something that'll get her yelled at later, but who's counting.

After a few minutes, she manages to feel the presence of some of the more notable clone troopers in one of the side rooms of the barracks. With a slight smile on her face, she walked over and knocked on the door, hoping that they'd be willing to indulge her in some non-combat social time.

The door opened to reveal Rex, looking a bit confused by her presence. "Commander? Is there an update on the situation?"

Ahsoka shook her head, "Nah, I just thought I'd come around and see what you guys get up to in between blasting droids into scrap metal." She peeked around him for a second. "Anything interesting?"

Looking at her for a second, he stepped aside, "Just a few of us trying out a game from the days of the old Republic. It's called Pazaak."

As she walked into the room, she could see Jesse, Vaughn, Hardcase, and Kix sitting around a holotable with each of them holding varying amounts of cards in their hands, ranging from none at all to five at most, and a pile of credits in the center.

"Huh, I think I heard about that in some of my history classes back at the temple." Thinking for a moment as she sees the clones play cards and/or pass turns, she asks, "Can I join?"

The group seem a little surprised to hear the question, but nobody seemed to mind. Hardcase answered her, "Sure, Captain Rex can fill you in on the rules while we finish up this round. I've got a few spare decks you can pick from."

"Sweet!"

After Rex gives her the rundown, how does the first round go?
