Zack in the dark

Zack didn't know how long he'd been out looking for Chloe but it felt like forever. He wandered down to the lake but when he couldn't see Chloe and didn't hear her respond to her name, he went looking.

He started walking around the lake but in the dark it was hard to tell where he was. First, he managed to stray away from the lake side, becoming lost in a sea of trees and moonlight shadows. Then he lost sight of the cabin and its lights.

Light flashed somewhere up ahead. Maybe it was Chloe he thought, maybe she had the good sense to bring a torch. Zack, in his haste, had left his phone back at the cabin so he had no source of light and no way to call for help.

Following the direction of the light, he felt the ground become steep beneath him, and he had to scrape and crawl up. He didn't remember anything like this near the cabin. When he reached the top, he stumbled through the trees into a clearing.

Except it wasn't a clearing, it was a road and that flash of light was car, coming straight at him.

Then everything went completely dark.
