Chapter 31 by Jobs

Does Katie loose them?

Yes

Katie's heart raced as she heard the rival cheerleaders' voices growing fainter, their taunts and laughter echoing through the woods. She knew she had to find a hiding spot, somewhere they wouldn't think to look. Spotting a sturdy oak tree with low-hanging branches, she made a split-second decision and began to climb.

Her fingers dug into the rough bark, and her feet found purchase on the gnarled roots. She moved quickly, her body fueled by adrenaline and the **** need to escape. The branches creaked beneath her weight, but she pressed on, climbing higher and higher until she was well above the ground.

Once she reached a safe perch, Katie huddled against the trunk, her body trembling with exertion and fear. She peered down through the leaves, watching as the cheerleaders passed beneath her, their phones still held high as they snapped photos of the woods around them. Katie held her breath, praying they wouldn't look up and spot her.

"Where did she go?" one of them called out, her voice tinged with frustration.

"Maybe she went this way," another suggested, their footsteps crunching on the leaf-littered ground as they moved further into the woods.

Katie stayed perfectly still, her heart pounding in her ears. She knew she had to wait until they were well and truly gone before she dared to move. The minutes ticked by, each one feeling like an eternity. Finally, after what felt like hours, the sounds of the cheerleaders' voices faded into the distance, and an eerie silence settled over the woods.

What happens next?
