What does the Night Nurse ask?
Why Would A Psychiatrist Recommend Anal Sex?
Sue Storm didn't think she could be any more embarrassed, but the flush on her cheeks spread down her neck and across her ears.
"My personal physician noted I've been dealing with a lot of stress lately," the Invisible Woman said. "And recommended a psychiatrist, Dr. Stone. She thinks a lot of my stress might be tied up in...sexual frustration."
The Night Nurse had a perfect poker face. She gave nothing away. But she asked.
"Dr. Stone. First name?"
"Karla," Sue said.
Linda turned to a computer and typed something in. She frowned as she stared at the results.
"What do you know about Dr. Stone?" she asked.
"Um. Doctor of psychology and psychiatry. Licensed to practice in New York. S.H.I.E.L.D. cleared her," Sue said, her brow furrowed. "Why?"
The Night Nurse hesitated.
"I keep track of medical professionals who treat superhumans. Your 'Doctor Stone' is...new. I mean, she's showing up in the right databases, but I've been going over those databases for years. Supposedly, she's been practicing in New York for a decade, but this is the first I've heard of her. There's a record of her graduating from Harvard Medical, but I've gone through the rolls there, and I didn't see her name. She has an entire history that would satisfy any S.H.I.E.L.D. researcher, but as far as I can tell, it didn't exist until two months ago," Linda said, her lips tight.
"You think Dr. Stone is a fake?" Sue said, blinking.
"I think somebody has gone to a lot of trouble to make her look like a legitimate mental health care professional," the Night Nurse said. "And the only reason I can think of for that to be the case is so that they can get access to you. As a result of which, you've injured yourself."
"But, I—that was my fault!" Sue protested.
Linda set her tablet down and leaned close to Sue Storm.
"Real health care professionals don't tell you to play with your butt, Susan," she said. "I don't know what Dr. Stone's game is, but I suspect she's manipulating you. Under the circumstances, I think we should investigate this further. If not for your own sake, then for the sake of your friends and family."
Sue wanted to defend Dr. Stone. They had built a rapport. Yet the Night Nurse had a reputation as well. Not just for discretion and skill, but for integrity.
"Okay," Sue Storm said, thinking of her sore ass. "What do we do?"
Who does the Night Nurse turn to?
