Peter Parker had been bitten by a spider, gaining the powers of the animal. Wall-crawling, improved attributes, and a spider-sense (to simulate a spider's eight eyes, or the vibrations it feel in the web, and so on). But not one power that a male spider has...

Hypnosis.

Or more exactly a courtship ritual to prevent the female spider from eating the male during or after reproduction. Which was called 'hypnosis' given the female's reaction to the techniques. From web vibrations, to touch, to gestures and dance... all to control the female to make her do what the male spider wants. Which is not to be eaten.

Of course, given how the Spider-sense went from eyes or vibration to a psionic danger sense, it would be no wonder if the 'Spidernosis' just changed into a form of hypnotic mind control.
