Chapter 3 by HiBeGi HiBeGi

How shall this battle start?

Wanted Criminal Meets a Superhero

"ORA!!!!" the sound of bone cracks rang through the air as a man soared through the air before crashing into some trash cans that had been left out in the alleyway. The man lay there, defeated, too injured to move as his conscience began to fade. Standing in front of him, just barely two meters away, was a young woman. She wore a black, shredded muscle shirt, one that showed off her abdomen and navel ring. It had white lines running throughout it, forming this almost web-like pattern. Her pants were similar, black with those white lines on them, though they had a long cape on the back of them, along with these bizarre orange squares that were the pants' legs. She had a butterfly tattoo on her left arm, one with a dagger going through the center of it. She had her hair up in two buns with it still being long enough that she had a small ponytail as well. Interesting enough, she had two hair colours, her bangs and ponytail were blonde, but everything else was this dark green colour. This was Jolyne Cujoh.

"Good freaking grief, we’ve got too much shit on our hands to now be dealing with random ass mercenaries that asshole hired." Jolyne huffed as she turned away from the man and began to walk away. He had wasted her time for long enough. She had spent the entire morning fighting him. The sun was beginning to set. She really needed to get back to her friends. Jolyne's brow furrowed as she remembered her friends, Ermes and Anasui, who had been affected by his stand earlier, which had drained the calcium from their bones, causing them to become brittle and forcing Jolyne to have to abandon them in order to hunt this guy down. Now that he was defeated, its effects should’ve worn off, though it still bothered her that they had been put in danger like that.

Jolyne was seconds away from exiting the alleyway, had it not been for a woman with a mask on suddenly appearing in front of her. "Hello!" she greeted as she hung there upside down, suspended in mid-air by a thread. Jolyne stepped back in surprise before beginning to analyze the woman standing before her. Her face was completely covered by a white mask; it had these wide, white lenses with pink highlights around them, which were where her eyes would be. Similarly to her mask, the main body of her outfit covers her entire body, being this spandex-type suit, with white and black seeming to make up her suit's colour scheme. She seemed to be one of those superheroes, but who was she? Jolyne began to recall the hundreds of faces and names she had seen on TV. Ghost-Spider! Or something like that, or maybe she was remembering her name completely wrong. Whatever the case, it didn’t matter. What really mattered was why she was here. "Long way from Florida, isn’t it?" Ghost-Spider asked in this joking manner.

"What?" Jolyne blurted out in surprise. Why did she bring up Florida? It couldn’t have been?! There's no way that she recognized her, right?

"Florida is like, seventeen or so hours away from New York, so it's kind of weird that you’re here of all places." the superhero continued on, leaving Jolyne standing there in silence, sweat beginning to trickle down her face, "I’m right, aren’t I? You are one of those Green Dolphin Street prison inmates that escaped, are you not? " Ghost-Spider inquired further. Jolyne’s eyes widened as a grunt of shock escaped her lips. The spider woman dropped from her web, turning in mid-air, allowing her to land in a cat-like stance on all fours. "HA! right on the money it seems." She said as she stood up to her full height, which was just a few inches shorter than Jolyne. The masked woman then cupped her chin in contemplation, "Which one were you, Jillian Cujo?" Once again, she began spouting out questions, though this one seemed to be more of a joke than anything.

Jolyne stood there, now stone-faced in completion of what she’d do next. "Huh? Hold on, miss, I think you’ve got the wrong person! " The prison escapee retorted, her face turning to shock and confusion. Jolyne wasn’t too interested in getting into another fight, so she’d try to lie her way out of this situation. "I mean, do I even look like the type of woman who's been to prison before?" Jolyne pleaded.

"Well, you look like you just mugged a fashionista for their clothes…No seriously, what is going with your outfit? " questioned the woman, covered head-to-toe in a skin-tight outfit. Jolyne, gritted her teeth at that remark, "Besides, even if you weren't a prison escapee, you’d still have to explain the guy over there in the trash bins." Ghost-Spider stated as she pointed behind Jolyne, "You know, the one knocked out and bleeding."

…Shit! Jolyne thought to herself, this woman was a real pain in the ass. "Oh that, he was like that when I found him." The ex-inmate said with an annoyed tone in her voice, "That should be a good enough cover story, right?" Joylne’s body visibly tensed as she boredly quipped. She was going to have her second fight of the day. It was just great.

Noticing the criminal standing before her was becoming hostile, Gwen leaped into the air. The Spider-Woman of Earth-65 then fired a web toward one of the walls of the alleyway, before tugging on it, causing her to move toward it. She landed on the wall, her spider-like powers allowing her to stick to it. Gwen looked down at Jolyne, her lenses narrowing. Suddenly, Ghost-Spider sprang off the wall, heading straight toward Jolyne at a break-neck speed. She'd get this conflict over and done fast, or so she thought.

「STONE FREE」”Joylne shouted as a blue aura formed around Jolyne’s body, that aura then transformed into a humanoid entity with a similar build to Jolyne. 「STONE FREE」 was light blue, with a grey colour running down its arm, shoulder, and neck with vertical ridges running down its face and forehead. It wore green sunglasses over its eyes and had hexagonal shaded paddings on its kneecaps. Though, it’s not like Gwen would be able to see this, for a stand was a manifestation of one’s soul, and only stand users can see another stand.

"ORA!" 「STONE FREE」 roared as it held its right fist back and rushed toward Gwen, the stand ready to pummel the hero superhero. But despite not being able to see a stand, a stand’s presence can still be felt.

Gwen felt Spider-Sense going off; it rang inside her head. Danger was imminent; in fact, it was right in front of her. Spider-Gwen dodged instinctively, despite there being nothing in front of her. Gwen turned her body in mid-air, narrowly dodging 「STONE FREE」’s fist, a feat that would have been impossible had it not been for the enhanced acrobatics and balance that Gwen’s powers granted her. As Gwen landed on the ground, crouched right next to Jolyne, both girls turned to one another in shock.
