What pokemon was inside?
Torchic
A red light flashed from the ball, a laser of pokedata transferring whatever pokemon the pokeball held from inside to outside. An adorable tiny orange bird with small yellow wings and three yellow crest feathers materialized in the grass. It cocked its head at Em and scratched at the ground with its clawed feet. Adrenaline surged through Em as he felt the call of battle within him.
“Go! Torchic!”
The little bird sped into action, running towards the zigzagoon as fast as its little feet could take it.
“Fight! Use Scratch!”
Torchic’s clawed feet started to glow white with the tell tale signs of a pokemon using its power.
Torchic used Scratch!
Torchic jumped and clawed at the zigzagoon, raking its feet across its enemy’s body weakly. It kept speeding past, running in a wide arc to turn and do another pass at its foe.
Zigzagoon used Growl!
The zigzagoon made a cute growling noise, almost as if it were begging for mercy. Torchic’s eyes lost a bit of their fire, having pity on their enemy.
“Fight, Torchic! Use Scratch again!”
Torchic made another pass at the zigzagoon, its claws glowing white yet again.
Torchic used Scratch!
Torchic raised its tiny talons as it sped past, lightly scratching its enemy’s legs. The maneuver proved too much, though, as the little chick stumbled and fell over itself.
Zigzagoon used Tackle!
The zigzagoon capitalized on the opening and threw itself at Torchic, slamming its teeny body into the teenier pokemon.
“You can do it Torchic! Fight! One more Scratch!”
Torchic seized the opportunity of their opponent remaining in close quarters and spun their glowing claws, digging into the zigzagoon’s fur for a tiny final blow. The zigzagoon stumbled on its feet for a few seconds before passing out.
Torchic used Scratch!
Wild Zigzagoon fainted!
Torchic gained 17 EXP. Points!
The adrenaline drained from Em’s consciousness, leaving him a bit dizzy and embarrassed for having shouted so much. He’d never spoken above a mumble, what exactly had come over him to shout like that?
“Whew…” The lady the zigzagoon had been chasing around walked up to Em and addressed him. “I was in the tall grass studying wild pokemon when I was jumped. You saved me. Thanks a lot! Oh? Hi, you’re Em! I’m professor Birch.”
Em briefly entertained the thought of how everyone knew him without introducing himself, but he was too relieved by not needing to introduce himself and too embarrassed by his battle outburst to entertain the train of thought for more than a few seconds. Another thing stole his attention as well. The professor was looking at him with a particular glint in her eyes. Em wasn’t quite a virgin, but he’d only ever been with his local gym leader back in Johto on his nineteenth birthday. She’d given him the same look a few times, and his intuition was giving him a weird feeling.
“You know, Em… I should reward you for saving me.”
Em gulped nervously as the professor’s tone took on a sultry note. She knelt in front of him and fiddled with his pants.
Is this really okay? We’re out in the open, there’s a girl watching like right ov- ohhh fuck
The professor suckled on Em’s balls, slowly stroking his dick as he hardened like a terrified metapod. She licked him from base to tip, a respectable length of 7 inches once fully erect. Em looked down at the professor in a new light, appreciating her mature beauty. Straight long brown hair, a generous bust, and wide hips. Her lips were incredibly soft as they slowly enveloped the tip of his dick. She looked up at him, gauging his reactions as she slowly bobbed up and down the top half of his member. Em wasn’t a virgin, but he wasn’t highly experienced either. He was near the edge already, and the professor knew it. She caressed his balls with one hand and pumped his shaft with the other, all while sucking hard on the tip of his dick.
“Professor, I-”
Em came in her mouth, like a caterpie’s energetic string shot, and she swallowed with ease. She smiled coyly at him as she carefully packed him back into his pants. She stood and dusted off her knees, which were not at all covered by her brown booty shorts. She tugged her blue tank top into place and adjusted her white lab coat with a wink before picking her bag up from where she had left it.
“This is not the place to chat, so come by my pokemon lab later, okay?” She sauntered back towards Littleroot, leaving Em standing stunned with a baby pokemon strutting around like birds tend to do.
After a few minutes, he recalled Torchic to its pokeball and started walking back too. The girl he had passed on his way out was laying in the grass with a satisfied smile on her face, her panties bunched up around one of her ankles and her orange sundress hiked up scandalously near her hips. Her thighs and right hand glistened with moisture. Em walked by her, his face flushing a deep red as she gave him a thumbs up with her left hand.
He made his way to the pokemon lab and walked in, marvelling at all the equipment and books that decorated the place. Professor Birch stood near the back of the room, so Em walked over to “chat.”
“So, Em. I’ve heard so much about you from your Ma. I’ve heard that you don’t have your own pokemon yet, even though your old gym leader saw lots of potential in you when you turned eighteen. The way you battled earlier, you pulled it off with aplomb! I guess you grew up in quite the home with your Ma around, huh? Oh, yes. As ahem proper thanks for rescuing me, I’d like you to have the pokemon you used earlier.”
Em received Torchic!
“While you’re at it, why not give a nickname to that Torchic?”
“Blaze.”
Renamed Torchic “Blaze”!
“If you work at pokemon and gain experience, I think you’ll make an extremely good trainer. My kid, May, is also studying pokemon while helping me out. Em, don’t you think it might be a good idea to go see May?”
Em nodded.
“Great! May should be happy, too. Get May to teach you what it means to be a trainer.”
Birch sent Em off with an affectionate pat on the cheek. He walked back out of the lab in search of May.
She said she’d be helping the professor with research, but she was nowhere near the professor when she was getting chased by the zigzagoon. I wonder where she went off to.
Em wandered into the tall grass, Blaze sitting on his shoulder and chirping happily. Then, the rush of adrenaline from earlier came back, though not nearly as strong.
Wild Poochyena appeared!
“Go! Blaze!”
Em had Blaze scratch the Poochyena until it fainted. Not nearly as exciting as his first battle, but he could tell Blaze was steadily getting stronger.
I don’t need May to teach me what it means to be a trainer, I already know.
Em spent the rest of the day out in the tall grass, training with Blaze. Together they defeated dozens of Poochyenas, Zigzagoons, Wingulls, and Wurmples. He walked back home and closed the door behind himself to notice the first floor was empty and dark, the lights already out. He walked to the kitchenette and cooked some simple food for him and Blaze to share, as quietly as he could. It only took a few minutes to heat up, especially now that Blaze knew how to use Ember. He sat at the table with Blaze and shared a bowl of warm oatmeal with it, while dusting off his ancient pokedex.
Ancient is probably too harsh, it was state of the art two years ago when I got it, but technology has come so far by now. Back then I’d need a pokedex, pokenav, pokegear, poketch, c-gear, and holo caster to do all the things a pokedev can do nowadays. Those people at Devon are wild.
Em sighed as Blaze pecked at the spoonful of oatmeal he offered it.
Where am I going to buy a pokedev? They’re sold out at every pokemart in Johto, but since Devon is a Hoenn company, maybe I’ll have some luck at a pokemart around here… Not like I have enough money for one right now anyway.
Em’s thoughts turned to his Ma’s stories about being a wild and free young pokemon trainer, beating other trainers in battle and taking their money. It was a rougher time for trainers back then, but also a time of transition. Right when Ma had begun her trainer journey, the Pokemon League introduced Trainer Consent Cards. Any pokemon trainer who was at least 18 years old, which all trainers on their journeys should be anyways, could apply for a Trainer Consent Card alongside their Trainer ID cards. The League wanted to introduce the custom that instead of exchanging money after a battle, Trainers with Consent Cards could have sex to settle their loss. It was slow to catch on, but in the ten years since its introduction in Kanto, nearly all the regions have accepted it and actively endorse it.
Em wasn’t a trainer in Johto, but having Blaze with him here in Hoenn filled him with a sense of pride and capability that a Rattata or Pidgey simply didn’t do for him. Em determined himself to be a trainer here in Hoenn, and to challenge the Elite Four.
And hopefully gather a few friends to make fun memories of my youth with along the way.
He thought of May, probably out there still doing research for her mom even though it was dark out already, and how the professor had told him to go find May and talk to her. He smiled, picking up the emptied bowl and taking it to the sink to wash. Blaze chirped contentedly from the table. After drying his hands, Em picked up the pokedex and booted it up, amazed that it still had a full battery after nearly two years without being charged. He scanned Blaze, taking a look at (apparently Blaze was a boy, though Em had no clue how the pokedex knew that) his stats.

Em raised his eyebrows as he processed all the information.
I have no clue what to do with most of this. Maybe I really should talk to May about what it means to be a trainer.
He motioned for Blaze to hop up on his shoulder and set out to find May again, this time actually looking for her instead of beating the sense out of all the local wildlife. He made it to Odale Town after a few minutes of rummaging around in the tall grass on Route 101. There was a pokemon center and a pokemart here, but the pokemart was already closed for the night. Em’s pokedex said Blaze’s HP was fine, so he didn’t need to use the pokemon center for healing, but he checked inside anyway.
There was a group of younger trainers splayed out by a table to the right of the door, sitting on their sleeping bags with their pokemon out and chattering excitedly about their day. Em felt a pang of loneliness as he looked at them, but shook himself out of it as he scanned the room for May. She wasn’t here, but the Nurse Joy on duty smiled warmly at him and waved as he turned around to leave.
Em turned northwards and headed up Route 103, poking around in the tall grass and shooing away tiny sleepy Poochyenas as they made the motions of initiating a battle. Blaze was way out of their league at this point, and it’d be cruel to let them try. Then, in the moonlight, he saw her. She sat up on a rise in the terrain, close to a ledge. There was a pokemon he didn’t recognize sitting next to her, resting its head in her lap. It had a little blue crest fin and spiky orange cheek fins, as well as a baby blue tail fin, so Em figured it was some sort of water type, though he wasn’t sure what kind of water types had four legs with paws more suited for land walking than for swimming.
Water type, huh? She’ll have the type advantage on me and Blaze if we battle. I’ll want to catch some sort of grass type if I want to type advantage against her, I’m pretty sure. Arceus, it’s been years since I took a battle class.
May was mumbling to herself as she wrote in a journal.
“Let’s see… The pokemon found on Route 103 include…” She looked up as Em rustled some grass on his way over.
“Em? Is that you? It’s kind of scary to sneak up on a girl at night, you know? Oh, I see, my mom gave you a pokemon as a gift. Since we’re here, let’s have a quick battle! I’ll give you a taste of what being a trainer is like.”
Em felt the familiar rush of adrenaline start to fill his veins again, just as intense as his first battle. This is nothing like the easy battles against much weaker wild pokemon, this will be a real challenge!
Pokemon Trainer May would like to battle!
“Go, Mudkip!”
“Go, Blaze! Fight! Use Focus Energy!”
Blaze ruffled his feathers as a fiery energy manifested around him, he was getting pumped up!
Blaze used Focus Energy!
“Mudkip! Use Tackle!”
The little blue fish with legs ran towards Blaze and slammed into him full speed.
Mudkip used tackle!
“Now, Blaze! Use Scratch!”
Blaze, surrounded by a rain of fire, twirled its glowing claws and raked them across the mudkip’s side, doing what looked like massive damage. The mudkip whimpered and stumbled, nearly fainting but steadying itself for another round of battle.
Blaze used Scratch!
“Hang in there, Mudkip! Use Tackle again!”
The mudkip scampered away from Blaze, then turned back and sprinted full speed for another collision. Blaze chirped as the mudkip bounced off him, tilting his head in confusion.
Mudkip used Tackle!
“Blaze! Show them your fire! Use Ember!”
Blaze crowed triumphantly and raised his beak as a tiny wisp of flame manifested in front of it. He hopped up and flapped his wings in an attempt at intimidation as he shot the Ember at the mudkip. It exploded in the little fish thing’s face, covering it in soot as it swayed dizzily in place for a few seconds before flopping down in defeat.
Blaze used Ember!
Foe Mudkip fainted!
Blaze gained 69 EXP. Points!
Em defeated Pokemon Trainer May!
“Wow! That’s great! Em, you’re pretty good!”
Em got 300 poke’s for winning!
“I think I know why my mom has an eye out for you now. I mean, you just got that pokemon, but it already likes you. You might be able to befriend any kind of pokemon easily.” May yawned. “I should probably get some sleep soon, and my poor mudkip needs his rest.” May gave Em the look as she rolled out her sleeping bag, though he wasn’t quite sure why. He debated going back home to sleep, or even just the pokemon center. Centers always had extra sleeping bags for trainers who might’ve lost theirs in their travels. But then again, May looked lonely and willing to let him stay.
What to do, what to do
