Time to split up

"Wow, this is a huge place," Morton said with a whistle, "I think we had better split up. We can cover more ground and get more footage that way."

"That's a great idea," Lauren replied. She had been looking for a way to get Mark away from Eliza and splitting up was a perfect way.

"Okay then," Morton said, "Why don't you and the crew go with Eliza and look around the upper floors, while Mark and I take the low light camera rig downstairs and check out the basement."

"Ummm, yeah we could do that...", Lauren made a show of thinking on her feet, "...or maybe I could go with Mark? The basement's of places like this are always scary, could be some good frights down there."

"Yes, you could do that," Eliza interjected, "But as I told Morton on the phone, all the sightings have taken place up here and on the 2nd and 3rd floors, never the basement. I have lots of stories I can tell you about those."

"That's a good point," Morton nodded, "Lauren, go with Eliza. She has lots to show and tell and we can get some good shots of you too exploring. Besides you can't use the low light rig and be on camera at the same time."

Lauren wanted to argue that they could switch up the crews and stick Morton with Eliza, but she knew if she engaged in any of this discussion it would become all too clear what her real objective was, namely being alone in the dark with Mark, and though daring, Lauren wasn't brazen enough to come onto another's woman's man right in front of her. So despite her best efforts Lauren ended up going on a guided tour of the house with Eliza, whom she was starting to dislike intensely.

After a brief tour of the ground floor with its beautiful dining room, living room and two story foyer, they then proceeded to go upstairs. Eliza led the way speaking eloquently and knowledgeably the entire time about the history of the house and the various ghostly sightings people had reported. Naturally Lauren listened attentively and asked the appropriate questions, this was her job after all, but all the while she was on the look out for ways to put this spoiled attention seeker in her place.

So when Lauren was taken into the attic and shown the 'mysterious' dancing colored light that appeared without rhyme or reason she made her move. "Mysterious dancing lights indeed?" she said to the camera with obvious sarcasm before pushing Eliza aside and heading further into the attic to uncover their obviously mundane source. So intent was she that she didn't even hesitate when she heard Eliza say, "Stop don't go any further it's not safe!"
