Libby had been conceived in France the year that the United States of America had finally abolished slavery. She immigrated a decade later and has since lifted her lamp besides the golden door to the New York City harbour, interrupted only briefly by ghost-busting, mutant fisticuffs, and mild Godzilla attacks.

That's why she was surprised when Sophia told her the news. Sophia was her restorationist, in charge of keeping her copper patina a beautiful green.
