Chapter 6

Surely nothing bad can comes out of this.
Something bad came out of it
(Author's note: I do in fact notice the typo in 'comes.' I am sorry, I am a dumbass lol.)
Ashley was starting to regret his choice.
Not the reason behind it, no he still wanted some answers. But he wished he spent some time actually planning his trip out instead of just rushing out in a fit of sadness and white hot rage. Because as it turns out, living alone with your mother for your whole life does not instill a person with the needed knowledge to survive out in the wild.
Before he actually headed out he did packed up and changed for the trip. The boy picking out a rather loose green shirt and some baggy sweatpants, as for supplies he brought along a few bottles of water, along with some crackers and other snacks to chow down on while he tracked her down, along with some HL to spend on the trip. Of course it wasn't until he was miles away from his home that he realized a few flaws in his plan. For one thing he seemed to have gravely underestimated how long of a trip it was going to be to the next town, he was already out of food and he was down to a half of a bottle of water already. Then of course there was the issuse that Ashley actually had no damn clue about were Eliza's mom was laid to rest. So he was basically just going to have to throw darts at the wall and hope he gets lucky. That wasn't even bringing up the more minor problems that this journey brought.
The sharp thorns and vines were hell on him, it kept catching on his pants and tearing holes in it, making it look like one of those fancy jeans with all the holes in them, although Ashley doubted that sweatpants had a place in that fashion style and without going into any graphic details let us just say Ashley wished he would have brought toilet paper along with him about three hours in. But, his lucky stars seemed to be backing him because after about three days of wondering around he finally reached the town in one piece. A very sweaty, annoyed, and scratched up piece, but one piece nevertheless. "I don't know how Eliza made this trip so often....." He muttered under his breath as he walked into the town. He would have got there sooner, but he got lost more then a few times.
The first thing he noticed upon entering the town was how much everybody was staring at him. Some with eyes filled with curiousity, some with amusement, others with disdain. He even spotted a female demon about to walk up to him, and she didn't look all that happy about him being here either, but before she could even take a few steps towards him, a boy, probably her brother or something like that, blocked her using his arm before leaning foward and whispering in her ear. Whatever he had to say seemed to calm her down, as a devilish smile crossed her lips. Before the duo walked over. Which he found odd, but he had bigger fish to fry then to stress about a pair of weirdo demons.
After thinking on it for a while he went to go buy some more supplies from a store. Chances are if Eliza did pass through her she was long gone already, so he would probably have to look for her some more. The girly male walked into a rather cozy 'ma and pop' like store, with a rather bored alranue maning the counter. "Um, hello." He greeted the woman, the demon raising her eyebrows as she saw him.
"Well I'll be. Never thought I'd see one of your kind 'round these parks." She scoffed, a sly grin on her lips as she rested her cheek on her left palm. He wad about to ask her what she meant by this but then he remembered what he left at the house, the set of fake ears his sister gave him! All these demons probably thought his was a human. Before he could even reply she giggled. "Don't worry round ear, I ain't gonna run you out. Money is money after all."
"Oh, um, t-thank you ma'am."
"No problem sugar." Despite her very warm tone she still had a slightly sinister grin on her face as she watched him walk around. But he tried his best not too think that deeply into it. It was probably just his mind wandering around, he just need to trust in a person's goodwill for once. After a few minutes Ashley walked up to her and laid out a few good items, most rather mundane, but a few magical one's to help heal him just in case something popped off.
"All right hun, that will be about 2500 HL dear."
If Ashley was drinking something at the moment he would have spat it out at the moment she said that. "What!? None of this stuff adds up to that!"
"Well there is a bit of a mark up hun. I mean there is the out of towners tax, aswell as a human tax."
"A human tax?" He glared at the plant woman, crossing his arms as he scoffed. "So your telling me humans come here so much that there is a tax for them?"
"Well. No, but for all I know you could be a hero and if am aiding you by selling ya stuff I think I should at least get something extra for taking the risk, don't ya agree dearie?"
The young man muttered under his breath as he dumped out a rather sizeable amount of coins onto the counter. "This is some bullshit. I am not even a human, I just have a genetic mutation."
"You got proof of that darlin'?"
"........... No."
"Then in my eyes your a human. Thanks ya kindly for the business, hope you'll come again~" She chuckled as Ashley stuffed the food in his backpack and walked off in hurry, quite eager to get out of there and annoyed that half of his HL went down the drain like that. This was all do stupid. In fact, HL itself made no damn sense now that Ashley thought about it! Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to make the money out of damn coins. There isn't even any '5 HL coin' or '10 HL coin' they are all just worth 1 HL! It makes no damn sense! Whoever came up with this was pure evil, which he guessed made sense, since a demon probably came up with it.
Before he could start asking around for his sister a trio of demons walked up to him. One of them being a rather good looking man in a cowboy getup, with two taller, heavily armed men at his sides. "Howdy there partner. What brings you here to my humble lil town?"
The blondy was on edge after the event if that bitch of a alraune but he still tried to be polite. "Just trying to look for my mother, have you seen her? She looks lik-" Before he was allowed to continue the man held his hand up in the air.
"Sorry to break it to you, but you are the only human 'round here. Which brings me to my point actually." He paused, going to grab a cigarette out of a pouch he had on his hip. One that the large man on his left lit with a lighter. "Ya see, we are gonna have to detain you for just a wee bit."
"W-what? Why!?" Ashley stuttered out, much to the man's amusement.
"Well a lovely lil lady and her brother came in and told me about you roaming about and I can't really let a human walk free here, even if they are a pretty thing like yourself." He paused to take a puff of his cigarette before explaining this more. "Now don't you worry your pretty head about this now, I'll personally make sure no harm befalls ya. We just gotta bring you to the overlord so she can handle ya."
Ashley gulped. "The overlord?" That was the last thing he needed. For all he knew the overlord may **** him into a life of slavery or just flat out kill him! "Listen, sir, I think your making a mistake. I know I look like a human, but I am really a demon, I just have a little birth defect, really!"
"Now honey, that seems pretty far fetched to me. But you know what, I'll cut a deal with ya." He smirked a idea crossing his mind as he walked a little closer to Ashley. "You come with us peacefully, agree to letting us keep you in one place for awhile. We'll give you a blood test. If you are a demon. You're free to go, if not you'll go to the overlord. Seems pretty fair wouldn't you agree?" Ashley took a few steps back, as he bit down on his lower lip. This wasn't why he came here at all, and there may have been the off chance that he actually was a human. In that case he was royally screwed, but he also wasn't all that confident in his abilities tto get away from this man. Seeing no other option, he'd sigh.
"Alright, I'll go with you." The smirk on his face widen to a full ear to ear grin as he let the cigarette fall to the ground. Crushing it under his boot with a hearty laugh.
"Glad ya seeing reason sweetheart. I'd hate to have to rough ya up, now come along now, the place you'll be staying at is a bit of a walk, so the faster we make the trip, the less sore your legs will be." With that the group started to move, the guards now closer to Ashley just in case the boy made any sudden moves. Like the cowboy promised the walk was pretty long, the place was actually a little out of town in fact. Along the way they passed by many buildings and places, the only real thing of note being a train station towards the edge of town and what seemed to be a mine. The man, who's name turned out to be 'Hunter.' Tried to make some small talk, but Ashley mostly stayed slient. Not wanting to say something to set the man off. Although he was close to doing so, since the demon kept looking him up and down like he was a piece of prime steak.
Soon enough they reached a rather fancy looking inn. "Why is there a hotel this far away from town?" Ashley mused outloud, which prompted Hunter to shrug his shoulders.
"I dunno. Didn't design the place hun, I just make sure things stay peaceful. Now because you were good you'll be staying here for a few days till we get your test results, you won't be allowed out of ya room but don't dwell on that too much, I promise you this is a mighty fine place." The boy had his doubts about that, but like before he simply bit his tongue and stayed quiet while they escorted him to his room after Hunter made some small talk the man running the counter. Soon enough Ashley walked into the room he would be spending the next few days in, and honestly it wasm't all that bad. Had a TV. Big bathroom, plenty of space to move, mini fridge and bed. Seems Hunter wasn't lying about this place being nice.
"Alright. Well this is were we part ways hun, I'll be back once we get your test results but until then you just relax and enjoy." He said, before glancing at the backpack Ashley sat on the floor. "Also we'll be taking this, just until we can make sure you ain't trying to hide anything in there. You understand don't cha?"
"Yep." He coldly replied.
"Ah don't be like that, try to smile more." With that comment Hunter finally closed and locked the door. Leaving Ashley alone with only his thoughts to keep him company.
