She has to share the bed with you

You think of an option she’s definitely going to say ‘no’ to, but you can at least say you tried.

“You can sleep in the bed, but my wife and I aren’t leaving.”

She intrigued that I didn’t regret her immediately. “How big’s the bed?”

“King.”

“Deal,” she says shaking my hand. “Your brother and I will have plenty of room to share it with you and your wife.”

“Whoa. You didn’t mention my brother sharing as well.”

She looks at you like you’re dumb, “He’s my husband. Of course he’s sleeping with me. That’s what this ring means.”

She flashes her wedding ring at you and dances off to tell your brother the good news.

You have to break it to your wife, “We have to share the bed tonight.”

“You’re joking.”

“No. My brother and his wife will be joining us.”

“Yeah you’re definitely joking. This isn’t Willy Wonka. We’re not sharing a bed with another couple.”

“I already told them they could.”

“Why did you do that!?”

Great now you have an upset wife. This might become the most awkward night of your life.

Your wife wears a nightgown to bed that’s so long and plain, she should be wearing a nightcap like Ebineser Scrooge. You wear shorts and a shirt. Your brother and sister-in-law come in wearing matching pajamas. Silk pants and button-down tops.

Your wife’s bad mood cracks and she says, “You two look so cute.”

Your little brother spins showing off his outfit. “It’s all her. She finds the most comfortable clothes. She’s basically an influencer.”

“You’re influencing me,” your wife says. “You’ll have to tell me where you got it, but before you answer. Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: this is a joke right. You’re really not going to sleep in the bed with us, right?”

“We’ll keep our space,” your sister-in-law says. “I don’t know if your husband told you but I have a horrible back. I have to sleep in a bed.”

“No. He didn’t tell me that. Hunny, let’s just let them have the bed,” your wife says, getting up to leave the room.

Oh no. That was their plan all along. They’re not getting the bed that easy! You pat the bed. “Get back in. We’re not going anyway. We can share.”

Your brother and his wife call your bluff. They get into the bed. You and your brother share the middle. Your arms touch. This bed really isn’t big enough for four adults, but you’re not leaving.

There’s a little chatting when the lights are out, but this isn’t a sleepover. You all have a busy holiday tomorrow. You need your rest. You fall asleep.

The gently rocking bed wakes you. Your wife sleeps like the dead. You slowly turn your head to the other side of the pillow.
