What's next?
Rogue: Chime of opening (but it's cursed)
ROGUE: I shrug. ”Suit yourself, ” and I discreetly pull out the Chime of opening and point it at her.
SORCERER: Oh awesome, I had forgotten we had that!
ROGUE, pulling out the item card and reading aloud: You can strike the chime as an action, pointing it at an object within 120 feet of you that can be opened, such as a door, lid, or lock. The chime issues a clear tone, and one lock or latch on the object opens unless the sound can't reach the object. If no locks or latches remain, the object itself opens. Each use takes up a charge so I guess I just wave it around a couple times and use up several charges. I think you'll agree that clothes are objects, so I'm pointing it at the barmaid’s skirt and blouse in order to 'open' these 'objects', get a look at her undies, and get the answer.
BARD: Where did we find that thing again... wasn't it in a lich's lair?
DM, grinning: Indeed you did. And as you reach for the Chime of Opening and use it on her, you find out a delightful little secret I've been keeping concealed ever since you guys found it last year. For you see... the chime turns out to be cursed! From the periphery of your vision you can see the chime begin to glow ominously with dark light and you swear you hear some laughter echoing in the distance before the magic backfires, targeting your own clothing instead of the barmaid's!
ROGUE, wide-eyed: Wait, what?!
SORCERER: Ah, no wonder it was so easy to steal.
BARD, laughing: Looks like we underestimated that lich's sense of humor!
DM: Rogue, could you please roll a D8 for me?
