Sands was off on some secret mission with Hawkman and Hawkgirl, something to do about the Hammer of Thor. Dr. Fate was off with his wife, Fury. And that had left just him alone with Dr. Mid-Nite to guard the building while the others were off helping Captain Marvel deal once more with Black Adam.
