Chapter 67
Are They All Set To Sail?
They Just Need To Plan It Out
As Gavin and Zack reached the dock Kurt and Brandon were just finishing their inspection, "Looks good to me," Brandon said with a shrug,
"I mean as long as it isn't gonna sink then I'm fine." Kurt agreed as he ran his eyes over the boat, seeing it perfectly dry, "Shit, fuck yeah, we're good to go." Kurt affirmed with a nod,
"Great," Zack replied as he lifted his head and glanced over to the cabin, "And here comes the cavalry." He said with a smirk as the four women walked towards them, bags in hand,
"They all look pretty psyched for this." Gavin pointed out as he looked at their smiles,
"Just remember, you owe your buddy here," Kurt pointed out to Gavin, "He just hooked you up,"
Gavin rolled his eyes at Kurt's words as the girls reached them, "Shit, that's the boat?" Ashley asked with a raised brow,
"Yeah, she's a little small," Kurt admitted, "But sturdy as all hell."
"We're gonna have to make three trips," Gavin interjected, "The boats only gonna be able to hold three at a time,"
"You mean five Gavin," Zack corrected, "Someone has to paddle back to pick up the others each time,"
"Plus the last trip is going to be who ever's left and the bags," Brandon added on, "I'll offer to go last." He said after a quick moment of thought. Once the idea of having to share a boat ride with Ashley surfaced Brandon immediately wanted to remove that chance.
"Alright sounds like a plan," Zack accepted with a nod, "So who's going first?"
"Oh, I want to row!" Heather suddenly exclaimed to the slight surprise of the others,
"Seriously?" Kurt asked with a smirk,
"Yes, Kurt," Heather sarcastically replied, "I used to row in this boat all the time when I was younger, and I loved it. I'm going first!"
"Okay, and who's gonna be your passengers?" Zack asked while glancing around,
"Hey, you and Chloe came up with this idea, stands to reason that you should go first," Gavin replied while crossing his arms, "That's fair right?"
"Yeah, that more than fair." Victoria instantly agreed,
"Alright, step aboard Chloe and Zack!" Heather announced as she ran over to the dock and carefully got herself into the boat. Chloe glanced at Zack before giving him a small shrug, walking over and stepping into the boat as well.
"Here, Zack," Brandon said as he handed him one of the few tents the girls had gathered up, "I'm taking the luggage, everyone else is grabbing a tent." Zack gave him a nod before walking over and stepping into the boat, squeezing right next to Chloe.
"Okay, and we are off," Heather exclaimed as she began to row, "You guys ready?" Heather asked with a wide smile, Zack and Chloe simply glanced at each other then back to the overly excited Heather, "I said, are you guys ready?!" Heather shouted out,
"Yeah," Zack and Chloe both weakly chanted back,
"Hell yeah!" Heather screamed back, "See you guys in a bit!" Heather tacked on to the rest of the group at the dock as they slowly floated away, getting closer and closer to the island.
The trip was looking to be about ten minutes both ways, which was helpful for Chloe who was not liking the slight rocking that boat was doing. "Getting a little seasick?" Zack asked with a smirk as they just past the halfway point,
"A little," Chloe muttered back, "It's just, I can feel every wave, and it's pretty cramped."
"Don't worry, we're almost there," Zack assured her as he put an arm around her shoulder, lightly rubbing her arm,
"So, Chloe, isn't Zack here you first boyfriend?" Heather asked with a raised brow,
"Huh?" Chloe asked snapping up, "Oh, yeah, I guess he is." She said with a nod,
Heather peered over to Zack for a moment before looking back to Chloe, "How's he doing?"
"Zack?" Chloe asked with a little giggle, "He's great," She said while leaning her head on his shoulder, "I mean it's all new for us, being friends for so long, it's a pretty big switch."
"I'm sure you two are fingering it out." Heather lightheartedly replied,
Zack and Chloe's eyes immediately went a little wide and then looked at each other, both knowing they heard the same thing. Zack let out a little cough, "Sorry Heather, what was that?"
"Hmm?" Heather innocently hummed back, "Oh I said, I'm sure you two are figuring things out." She smoothly answered,
"Oh," Zack said letting out a little breath, "Sorry, I thought you said...something else." Chloe, now a bit uncomfortable removed his head from Zack's shoulder and looked out on the water.
The last few minutes of the trip were stuck in awkward silence, as soon as they reached the island, Heather looked around and saw a small beach style landing to pull the boat up to. She got a few feet from the shoreline before jabbing the paddle down into the sand, "Okay, you guys hop out here and I'll head back for another group." Heather said while looking up at them,
"Right," Zack agreed as both he and Chloe carefully stood up, doing their best not to rock the boat and falling out. They both were able to step into the water, which only reached just below their knees, "Heather, we're gonna scout around a little for a good campsite," Zack called out as Heather spun the boat around, "If we're not back here when you get the next group that probably means we're setting up!"
"Gotcha," Heather called back, "Just don't go too far, we don't want to lose you two!"
"No promises!" Chloe called back as the pair began to walk up onto the island, causing the three to share a final laugh. "Okay, we're alone at least for ten minutes," Chloe said with a pleased smile, "Let's just enjoy that."
"You mean..." Zack asked glancing at her with raised brows,
"No, idiot," Chloe giggled back, "Besides, I don't think I could get that done in ten minutes. We'd need more time." She added on while a suggestive grin, "I was saying let's enjoy the peace."
"Can do McRose." Zack agreed with a nod as they reached dry land and started to hike up into the wooden blend. It took the pair another eight minutes before they found a decently clear, and rather flat piece of island, "Hmm, doesn't look too bad. Pretty big too, shouldn't have to worry about the tents being all pushed together."
"Good, I don't want ears on us all night," Chloe replied while she slowly wandered around the area,
"Chloe," Zack chuckled back, "We're still going to have to be very quiet. Especially if we're gonna be doing that in the dead of night."
"Fair point," Chloe conceded, "Still, at least we can be spread out."
"Yeah," Zack agreed as she dropped the tent on the ground, "But we are missing one thing."
"And that's?" Chloe asked as she glanced over at him,
"A firepit," Zack replied with a grin, "You can't camp without having a fire. C'mere, I'm gonna go get some rocks to make the outline, you just clear a spot from all this overbrush."
"Gotcha!" Chloe chimed back as Zack began to wander around the area looking for decently sized rocks, which luckily there were plenty of to be found.
Nearly thirty minutes later the group was all assembled at the clearing. Kurt and Brandon made a few trips to the boat to grab the bags while Gavin and Victoria started to clear the ground so the tents would lay flat. This left Ashley, Chloe, Zack, and Heather to gather up just a bit of firewood. Another twenty minutes past before everyone was finished with their little tasks. As Zack stood up, looking over his fire pit with pride, Heather spoke up, "Okay, we all know what's first!" The others looked over at her with some interest as they were curious what she had in mind.
