Chapter 42 by stsword
Later that day...
Let's check on Kurt
Brandon drove Kurt in silence.
He knew he was no genius, but he figured he hss a good idea of what happened.
His girl Ashley told him all about sleeping with Zack after tricking him into thinking he was hearing Heather and Kurt have sex.
Brandon can't say he was pleased to hear about that, but Ash really wanted that free pass for this trip, Brandon didn't think Ash had a burning secret desire for Gavin.
Zack is a dork too. But he's a dork with charisma. People notice when he walks into the room, people pay attention when he talks, and smile when he pays attention to them.
Brandon is pretty sure Zack has never noticed. If Brandon had that he'd be moving to Hollywood to star on the CW or in a movie series based on a young adult series, but Zack is going to MIT.
No brainiac, but as a football player Brandon knows about plans. Step 1, make Zack think Heather is doing Kurt, hurting Zack. Step 2, Zack does Ashley, hurting Heather.
Throwing in how Kurt has been perving on all the girls like a future sex offender, it's pretty obvious what step three was.
If step three failed, Brandon figures Heather wouldn't have been that mad.
Kurt is lucky, Brandon thinks. If he had hurt Ashley to get into her pants, nobody would have been strong enough pull me off before Kurt died.
Brandon turns his eyes from the road just long enough to make sure his passenger is still alive.
Kurt is lost in thoughts of his own. She hates me. She doesn't love me anymore. I wish she had killed me. She'll never forgive me. She wants me dead. I deserve this. We aren't family anymore. I hurt her. I made her cry.
Finally, they made it to the ranger station.
Dragging Kurt into the station, "Oh my god! Kurt, is that you? What happened to you?"
Oh Brandon hadn't thought about that. "He uhh fell. Repeatedly. Clumsy guy. I think he has an inner ear issue."
The attractive twenty something park ranger just looks at him like he lost his mind.
"Yeah," Kurt says weakly, his chest hurting with each breath, "My fault" pause "Careless."
"Help me get him into my service vehicle."
Getting Kurt inside, Jennifer is surprised when Brandon moves to go back into his car.
"Aren't you going to come with your friend?"
"We aren't friends. We're here with Heather. She uhm couldn't come herself." 'Because she probably would have been too busy tying Kurt to rocks and burying him in the lake like a I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel.'
Jennifer couldn't help but notice that Kurt flinched at the mention of Heather's name. 'What happened? I remember them coming here as children, if they had been any closer they would have coordinated their clothes and communicated telepathically.'
...
The doctor said that the only serious issue was bruised ribs, and prescribed some Tylenol and ice.
The issue was that Kurt had nowhere to go.
"I can't go back! I can't go home, they'll ask why I'm back! They can't know! Promise me you won't tell them!"
"Shh. Shh. Nobody has to tell them anything." Jennifer says, trying to calm Kurt down.
Knowing it's a bad idea for multiple reasons, she realizes she's taking him home. Her mind summons images of Heather and Kurt as children. She feels protective of them, she needs to know what happened.
And so Kurt goes home with Jennifer.
