Chapter 27

Where does your remodelling start?
Multiple choices, multiple answers
You easily have enough supplies to use more than one upgrade, so why don't you?
If you lock the door, they'll either pick it, or break the door in. If you add the crossbeam lock, they might give up before they make it in.... Not good for you. But if you reinforce the locked door, it'll take more time to batter down. And if they pick it, chances are it'll be heavy enough to make them work for it. Delaying players a bit would give you time to prepare if you're not expecting them.
After consideration, you select the 'Lock', and 'Reinforced Door' options. Some of the materials vanish from the desk. Turning to look at the door you're impressed.
It actually looks somewhat..... formidable now.
Turning back to the menu screen, you do the math. You have 8 wood, 10 iron, and 5 rocks left. More than enough to make another improvement or two.
You wish you could use the spiked pit, it could be incredibly helpful.... If only you had some way to dig a hole, but even if you had a shovel you'd still have to get rid of the stone floor first. And you doubt you're strong enough for that, even if you had a hammer or something.
Too bad, if you put it in the right spot, it would magically take care of the..... And, you're an idiot sometimes.
You're not a barbarian who needs to swing a mallet to smash the stone. You are a mage.... If life hands you a problem, magic the shit out of it until the problem is gone.
If you need a floor gone, you don't need a hammer or something. You blast the damn floor with magic.
Closing the menu for now, you walk over near the door to see what you can do about that trap.
Just in case you have to deal with this area sometime, you decide to blast as close as you can to the middle of the door. This means there should be a thin walkway to either side of the door when you're finished.
Charging your Dark Orb, you cast it at the floor. Instantly the stone and mortar explode revealing.... More stone and mortar.
Honestly, what else did you expect from a castle?
Not letting this deter you, you fire blast after blast at the floor, each time sending pieces of stone and clouds of dust everywhere.
After your seventh or eighth blast (you really should have kept better count) you have an irregular hole about as wide as half the door.
Sighing after all of your magical work, you look around to see what kind of mess you made.
As expected, bits of rock, mortar, and dust are sprinkled around the room... Bits that you might be able to use.
Making up your mind, you start grabbing the pieces big enough to move and take them over by the work table.
It isn't long before you have a good pile of stone fragments. The only thing left to deal with is the powder, and you don't really know if you can even make anything with it.
Figuring it's worth finding out, you bend down and scoop a good sized handful to test. There's not much room, but you're able to clear a corner off and pour the dust onto it.
*SLAM*
"What the hell?" You spin to face the door.
*SLAM*
Shit, someone's trying to get in.
"Problem Rogar?" You hear a masculine voice ask.
Moving quickly you pull the menu up again.
"Door's stronger than normal, think it might actually be locked." a second, deeper male voice says.
You navigate back to the 'chamber upgrades' menu and scroll down to the 'Pit Trap' option, hoping.
"If it's locked, it won't be soon." a feminine voice this time.
Yes! It's not greyed out anymore.
*Click..click....click*
You hit the selection, and spin around as more of your materials disappear.
"What's taking so long Nat?" the first voice again.
You look at the floor by the door, and sigh in relief. It's seamless. The blocks are whole, perfect, and clean.
"Each lock is different, give me a second 'Ranger Rick'." the female replies.
Clean? Holy crap most of the floor's covered in dust and powder, except for the square directly in front of the door.
*Click..click...thunk."Are you going to make that joke forever?" the first male, Rick apparently asks.
Sounds like she did it, but you can't let them in with the trap so obvious. As fast as you can, you grab your scoop of dust back up, and run for door.
"Hnngh...."
Just as you throw the powder, the door starts to open.
What do you do?

You come into being as a low-level monster, the kind heroes chew through like popcorn. You know the drill, whether you're a player yourself or an artificial intelligence, and you're sick of it. You set out on your own quest: to defeat the heroes at any cost (or at least be an epic boss somewhere down the line).
