What's next?
Craziness slows down a bit
Although the beginning of the school year had been anything but normal, the next few weeks were surprisingly mundane.
The whole thing with Maya had been exciting and confusing at first. Then there was the discovery of Ariana and Chase, a secret I still hadn’t told Jeff. For a while, it felt like I was carrying around this huge weight of information that could blow up the entire dorm.
But nothing happened.
Jeff and Ariana continued acting like the perfect couple. Chase continued being Chase. Doug spent most of his time buried in his computer. And I went to class, studied, worked out, and called Sarah like everything was normal.
Maya and I still talked occasionally, but things settled down a bit, although I’m positive we’ll be back at it again sometime soon. We just got caught up in busy everyday life.
I also never told Jeff what I’d seen that night.
Sometimes I’d look at him and wonder whether he had any idea. He seemed completely comfortable around Ariana, completely trusting. I’d feel a little uncomfortable knowing something he didn’t, but eventually even that feeling became familiar.
School itself was pretty routine. Classes. Homework. Meals with the guys. The occasional night watching something in the common room.
I had expected senior year to feel different.
Instead, it was starting to feel like every other semester I’d had.
The weird part was that I wasn’t sure whether I was disappointed by that.
After the excitement of those first few weeks, ordinary life almost felt boring.
And I was beginning to realize that maybe I had gotten a little too used to excitement.
