Break the mundane
The mundane weeks didn’t last long.
One Friday afternoon, Jeff came back into the dorm looking unusually excited.
“Hey, Ethan,” he said. “You doing anything tonight?”
“Not really. Why?”
“There’s a football game tonight. Our team’s actually pretty good this year. I was thinking about going.”
I shrugged. “Sure. Sounds fun.”
“I’m bringing Ariana.”
That didn’t surprise me. Jeff and Ariana seemed to do just about everything together.
We were still talking about the game when Chase walked out of his room.
“Football game?”
Jeff looked over. “Yeah.”
“Can I come?”
Jeff laughed. “You weren’t even part of this conversation.”
“I know. But now I am.”
I laughed. “You just overheard us.”
“Exactly. And now I want to go.”
Jeff shook his head. “Fine. Come along.”
“Sweet.”
I looked over at Doug, who was sitting at his desk with his computer.
“You coming?”
Doug shook his head. “Nah. I’ve got some stuff to finish tonight.”
“Alright.”
So that was the plan. Jeff, Ariana, Chase, and I would head to the game, while Doug stayed back at the dorm.
We left a little later that evening and made our way toward the stadium.
