David LaRose was 30 years old and an accountant at a company that sold clothing in stores and online. It was successful and run by a man in his 60s and his two grandchildren as his son, and his grandchildren's father had died in a mountain climbing accident.
David liked his job despite the fact the grandchildren, 31-year-old Hanly, and 28-year-old Harper were douchebags. Hanly was a sexist meathead, and Harper was a ditzy, self-absorbed diva. They were not like their humble, hardworking grandfather.
David was dining alone one afternoon on his lunchbreak. He was at his favorite mom and pop Chinese restaurant, and he received his fortune cookie and fortune. He had been fuming as he had met with Hanley and Harper in the morning and had failed to try to convince them that the new fabric they wanted to use was too cheap and would sacrifice quality for price, and that would hurt the company in the long run, but they insisted they were in an era of "fast fashion," and the brand and look was what mattered the most.
"God, why won't they just believe me?" he muttered. He looked at his fortune cookie on the small plate.

He picked up the fortune and gave a derisive "humph," before he muttered. "I wish everyone just believed what I said without question."
Suddenly David felt a bit dizzy as if he had vertigo, but it passed quickly.
The waitress came with his change.
