Chapter 17 by AddickTara

Yes or No?

Yes

I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I should say yes. But then I thought about how much fun I had with Tyrone, how nice it was to be out with someone who wasn’t my kids or my nosy sister.

“Sure,” I said finally. “I could eat.”

The diner was bustling with people, the clatter of dishes and the murmur of conversations filling the air. We were shown to a booth in the back.

As he went to sit down, I couldn't help but notice his large bulge again. I quickly looked away, not wanting to get caught staring, but my face grew hot with embarrassment. I sat across from him, fidgeting with the menu.

The waitress, a petite blonde with a friendly smile, came over to take our order. I opted for a grilled cheese sandwich and a bowl of tomato soup, while Tyrone ordered a cheeseburger and fries. As we waited for our food to arrive, we chatted about everything from our jobs to our families. I learned that Tyrone had an older sister who was a lawyer, and that he loved playing basketball in his free time. He, in turn, learned that I had two kids.

As we talked, I couldn’t help but notice the way Tyrone looked at me. His dark eyes seemed to bore into my soul, and I felt a flutter in my chest every time he smiled. I found myself laughing more than I had in months, feeling carefree and alive in a way I hadn’t experienced in years.

When our food arrived, we dug in, savoring the delicious flavors. The grilled cheese was crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, just the way I liked it, and the tomato soup was creamy and slightly sweet. Tyrone seemed to enjoy his cheeseburger as well, judging by the way he devoured it in just a few bites.

As we finished up our meals, I felt a sense of disappointment wash over me once again. Soon I would have to go back to my mundane life. But as if reading my thoughts, Tyrone reached across the table and took my hand in his.

“Would you like to do it again sometime?”

I felt my heart skip a beat as I looked into his eyes. They were dark and piercing, filled with a desire that I hadn’t seen in a long time. I knew that if I said yes, there would be no turning back. But as I thought about the past few hours, about the way Tyrone made me feel, I knew that I couldn’t say no.

“Yes,” I said finally, my voice barely above a whisper.

Tyrone smiled, his face lighting up with joy. “

“I guess I should get you back home,” I said, glancing at my watch.

Tyrone nodded, a look of disappointment crossing his face. “Yeah, I should probably get back to my grandma’s.”

When we arrived at his grandmother’s house, Tyrone turned to me with a smile. “Thanks for today, Brenda. I had a great time.”

I smiled back, feeling a sense of sadness wash over me. “I had a great time too, Tyrone.

My heart skipped a beat at his words. I knew that spending more time with Tyrone would be a bad idea, that it could lead to complications I wasn’t ready for. But as I looked into his handsome face, I found myself unable to say no.

“Yeah,” I said finally. “That would be nice.”

As I drove away, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my life was about to change in ways I couldn’t imagine. But as a smile played on my lips, I knew that no matter what happened, I was ready for whatever came next.

Where do you go next?
