With regret

With the way Sarah was laying on you, her body heat made it incredibly easy to drift back to sleep if you would have let it take you over. Like a perfect weighted blanket.

You however had already decided your plans for the day and if you stopped now, you could see yourself just wasting the day away. No matter how appealing that sounded, you had bigger ambitions to take care of.

“As lovely as this is. I need to get to school early.” you said, trying to convince both Sarah and yourself to get moving.

You gave her a quick kiss on the head and you were able to get out from under her with only a groan on her part.

“Why are you going in early?” she asked, still sprawled out on the bed.

“I wanted to go see Rebecca just to make sure she’s still okay with coming later. Emma isn’t joining me so I’m sure you two could meet up to walk to school if you wanted some company” you suggested, crouching down at the side of the bed so you could be eye-level with Sarah again.

“Hmmm… I’ll think about it” Sarah replied, looking like she was going to go back to sleep.

Your original intention had been to wake her up so it felt like you should at least try something to get her up, even if she hated you for it.

“Right, I’m heading off. Love you.” you said, leaning in to kiss her.

“Love you too” she added after the kiss.

Getting up, you grabbed one corner of her covers and fully yanked them back, collecting them in your arms before placing them on the floor at the foot of the bed.

“Hey!” Sarah complained, curling up into a ball as she tried to preserve some of the heat she had left.

It did her little good though, and you could tell she’d have to get up if she wanted to get warm again.

“I’ll see you later” you quickly said, giving your goodbye as you stepped out into the hallway in case Sarah decided to get some payback.

Luckily for you, you didn’t need to grab anything but your already filled bag from your room so you were able to make a quick escape from being anywhere near Sarah’s room.

You did do a quick scan of the house once you got downstairs and while Mom was still up in her room, you did say your goodbyes to Lucy before you went out of the door.

Compared to yesterday where you were all lined up at the door so you could give everyone a kiss goodbye, this felt a lot more casual as if you were sneaking out of the door to go do something wrong. You were technically sneaking off to go see a woman but that was only if you phrased it in the literal sense.

You’d probably still end up doing something with Rebecca when you saw her this morning so maybe it wasn’t actually the wildest comparison that you could have gone for.

While the thought went through your head, you headed down the path and passed Emma and Grace’s house, not stopping there for what felt like the first time in a while. This was actually a rare occurrence that you could spend your morning walk on your own and it gave you chance to think over a few things.

You were sure you’d also have some time later after you had finished one of your tests but in those scenarios you weren’t able to check your phone. It had been a while since you actually reviewed everyones stats. You had been trying to focus on your phone a lot less so that you could spend more time in the moment without having to worry about stats or anything more complicated than what was right in front of you.
