Her plan backfired

Eva heard the trap deploy, but something wasn't right. She felt a surge of horror as she realized her mistake. While she had adjusted the target a few feet in order to reach the stranger, she had moved it in the opposite direction to what she wanted - right where she stood.

The net enveloped her, and she felt tiny sparks coursing through her body as she was immobilized. She let out a tiny _eek_ sound as she lost balance and tipped over. She closed her eyes, resigning herself to a painful fall.

To her surprise, her fall stopped right before she hit the ground. The stranger had caught her, and they finished gently laying her on the ground.

"My, oh my", the stranger said. "Looks like someone was hoisted on her own petard." (1)

Eva was still seeing stars from the sudden electric simulation. "T-thanks.", was all she could muster.

She tried to move her hand so she could call Lexi, her backup. She needed to find a way out of this mess. She tried to move her other hand so she could activate her comms, but couldn't - the trap was too good at its job, and she was effectively paralyzed for the next few minutes.

The stranger seemed to sense what she was thinking, moving close to her and taking out their phone. "Do you want to call your friend?", they asked, smirking. "You'll want to see this."

The stranger held the phone in front of Eva. She couldn't help but watch what seemed like security footage, and the figure of Lexi came into view.
