Phone message?

There was a vibration, the sound of a phone buzzing. He checked Hadiyah's pile of discarded clothes and found the sleek device responsible. He went over to Hadiyah, used to her fingerprint to unlock the phone, then checked what was up. It was a text from Jaina Hudson. He scrolled up and read their prior messages. Jaina seemed to invite Hadiyah to many of her charity events. Fair enough, given Hadiyah was a socialite like her. But within the blocks of text, he sensed some hostility.

'No, it's more like suspicion?' he thought, rereading the texts.

It was mostly from Hadiyah's end. Her texts occasionally prodded at certain points and she raised questions where there shouldn't have been. All of it culminated into this single text Jaina sent her three minutes ago.

< Jaina Hudson: Hello, Hadiyah. I hope you got home safe. I left Jace and the others at the bar. Would you like to discuss what you mentioned at the party?

Aaron's brows furrowed. He reread their previous conversations but couldn't find a hint as to what she was referring to. Hadiyah's messages, though suspicious, were nothing more than that: slightly iffy. She questioned whether Jaina attended a particular party or if she donated to a certain family. Strange, yes, but easily explained away. This…whatever they had discussed tonight was important.

A plan started to piece together in his head. Aaron smiled and texted back.

< Hadiyah: Yes, of course. I will link my address. Come.

Serious and properly capitalized, like Hadiyah usually typed. Aaron saw that Jaina had seen the message.

Now he had to wait.
