A Bunny in Need

There were so many things Jaune wanted to try with the remote. He only scratched a fraction of the buttons and how to use them. There were so many interesting options to use. Some stuff was obvious, like volume, so he wasn’t going to rush to use that until the situation arose, but he was also considering other buttons. Input, Menu, Info, and countless other choices were there too. He wondered how they would work. To try them, he would have to find another person who had some free time no one would miss.

“I wonder if the channels are the same for everyone or if people have different channels?” Jaune wondered. “With Weiss I can understand news, I bet she watches it a lot, but sports and… porn? Why those?”

The boy was lost in thought until he saw a familiar girl carrying a stack of papers and trying to open a classroom door. Without thinking, Jaune rushed forward and opened it for her.

“Here, I got it.”

“Thank you so much!” The girl had long, brown hair and brown eyes. She also has a pair of brown rabbit ears, identifying her as a Faunus. Jaune knew her name, even though she was a second year. Velvet Scarlatina occasionally showed up in Oobleck’s class to assist the first-year students. Even though she was a year older, some people in Jaune’s year liked to bully her because she was rather timid in nature.

“Why do you have all those papers?” Jaune asked as he followed her inside. “Classes are done for the day.”

“Doctor Oobleck asked me to drop these off in his classroom as he had an appointment this afternoon.” Velvet explained. “He’s planning to grade them tomorrow.”

“All of them?” Jaune eyed the 3-foot-tall stack.

“Yeah, it’s a lot.” Velvet giggled. “It might take him an entire hour.”

“Are we sure he’s not drinking a couple dozen espressos a day?” The boy joked.

“The second years agreed it’s a mixture of energy drinks and coffee.” Velvet replied with a grin. “That's the only explanation… ahhh!”

Velvet slipped and fell down, spilling the papers all over the floor in the classroom.

“Noooo! It’s going to take forever to pick those up and organize them!”

Jaune got an idea. Reaching a hand into his pocket, he pulled out the remote and aimed it at Velvet before pressing the Rewind Button. In an instant, all the papers were flying toward Velvet as she unnaturally jumped into the air and landed on her feet. Holding the button a little longer, Jaune made sure he had time.

“That’s the only explanation…”

As Velvet began to slip, Jaune stepped forward, fully ready this time. His arm stretched out and he caught her before she fell.

“Careful there.” Jaune told her.

“Thank you… again.” Velvet blushed as she quickly set the papers down on the desk. “You really showed up at a good time.”

“It’s what I do.” Jaune pointed a thumb at himself. “Name’s Jaune Arc after all. Short, sweet, ladies love it.”

“Do they?” Velvet giggled, covering her mouth.

Oops, Jaune realized he let that saying slip again. That was something he said as a kid and his sisters didn’t tell him it was stupid so it was hard to break the habit. Any cool points he acquired with the cute bunny girl was suddenly lost at his childish remark. Of course, that could be rectified. If Velvet didn’t remember it, Jaune could have a redo. Smiling himself, Jaune held up the remote and hit the Rewind Button once more.

“You really showed up at a good time.” Velvet repeated, unaware she just said that as to her, it never happened thanks to being rewound.

“What can I say?” Jaune shrugged. “I’m just lucky I got to spend time with a beautiful girl.”

Velvet blushed and then shook her head.

“I’m flattered, Jaune. Really. But you’re not really my type.”

Ouch, that stung. Well, he could do better. Maybe not try to be cool and flirtatious? Getting rid of all the embarrassment and awkwardness was a fine use for his new remote. For the third time on Velvet, Jaune hit the rewind button and she moved backwards at high speed.

“You really showed up at a good time.”

“Hey, what kind of person would leave someone in trouble alone?” Jaune smiled at her. “If you ever need help, just ask.” There it was. Nice, a little confident, willing to help if _she _wants it. Velvet may not have feelings for him, but who knew what the future would bring. The bunny Faunus was a very cute girl after all.

“I appreciate that, Jaune.” Velvet nodded and seemed to relax. Maybe she wasn’t in a position to date? It was good he got some redos. “It’s always nice to have friends willing to help out. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to-...”

Velvet froze mid-sentence, her mouth open and as still as a statue. Jaune had hit the Pause Button as she talked. Lowering the remote, Jaune quickly went over and locked the door to the classroom. Oobleck was busy so no one else should be arriving soon. They had time to themselves.

“Friends help each other out.” Jaune said, more for himself than the paused girl. “So how about you let me try out my new toy on you a bit.”
