Background: Between season 1 and 2 Buffy spends the summer with her father in LA.

Xander’s Duty (5)
“This is Dawn,” Buffy said as she introduced her sister.
“Hey, Dawn, I’ve heard a lot about you,” Xander said as he extended his hand, but the girl responded by grabbing him in a hug.
“I’ve spoken well of you,” Buffy said with a smile, “and I might have let something slip.”
“Something slip?” Xander asked as Dawn pressed tightly into him.
“About your responsibilities,” Buffy said. “For taking care of us.”

“Mom,” Buffy called out as she entered her room. “Why are there boxes in here?”
“Oh, I was using it for storage during the summer,” Joyce called back.
“Great,” Buffy said as she dropped her bags.
She started putting her clothes away, but felt like she remembered the boxes. She went over and saw that one had the lid unbolted. Curious, she opened it up.
Inside was a fertility idol she remembered her mother bringing home once upon a time. It was a statue, but made in the shape of a phallus. It was over a foot long and as thick as her arm.
She smiled as she saw it, “This might be just what I’m just for.”
Hero’s Reward (12)
“Wow, Xander, that was amazing,” Willow said as he walked her and Cordelia out of the building.
“Hey, I was just doing my part.”
“No, Willow’s right,” Cordelia agreed. It was unusual, but nice, “you’re a hero.”
“Stop, Buffy did all the slaying.”
“And you were the one who helped get her to focus,” Willow pointed out.
“Yes, a hero,” Cordelia said as she licked her lips. “And a hero deserves a reward.”
