Mrs Mulcaster was ready for him . Holding forth a bra "Try this on Ducks ; you'll need everything off on top , and while you're at it I'll get Chemino ."

Delighted to oblige Sam(antha) got bare from the waist up . Just looking at the ( his ! ) bra brought on an erection . Getting the bra on proved difficult . He had seen a woman reach behind herself to attach the two ends of the band , but he couldn't get his hooks and eyes to engage . He was still struggling when Mulcaster returned with Chemino in tow .

"What are you doing , you'll never get it like that " She showed him how to leave the shoulder straps down , connect the bands with the hooks and eyes at the front where he could see what he was doing then rotate the band and finally slip his arms through the shoulder straps . The bra looked quite natural on him but Mrs Mulcaster flipped the cups saying he needed something ' in there ' before he stood a chance at the Eurovision contest . She turned to Chemino and said .

" The legs aren't bad with the hair gone , but they'd look better - not so pasty - covered up . But we don't do underwear ; certainly not suspender stockings which he has got into his head he wants to wear ;and he doesn't have any relatives he can ask ."

Chemino : " Well he is the principal woman . I suppose we can add a hundred to the Props.budget . Samantha just go out and buy the things ."

Sam blushed redly . Both Mulcaster and Chemino saw it . It was Chemino who intuited where the embarrassment arose and to save face - literally - said " I'll talk to Lois and ask her to go with you - she'll make sure the size is right , and everything . "

This official cover was plausible but now he had to worry about what Lois would think , and also it was quite a lot of money and could pay for panties - but would she be told they were included . He was definitely not going to spoil the suspenders and stockings by wearing Y-fronts over them .

His worries were unfounded . Lois found him the next day in the parking lot . Her statements were to Sam , portentous . He had never 'come out ' to any of the Drama Society . His native effeminacy and that it was known he wanted a feminine role and that he answered to Samantha made it a given among his colleagues that he was gay but outside the Society and even within it , Sam clung to the fiction of being heterosexual .

When Lois said " Chemino asked me to buddy you to a womens department because he thinks you are embarrassed that people might think you're gay . I said doesn't he know that everyone knows he his gay ." Sam was at a loss for words but unconvincingly muttered "I'm not really ." Lois ( gently but firmly ) " Come on ...... Samantha ..... you look like a girl ,you act like a girl ,and you want girls' clothes . Nobody thinks badly about you - its just you , we know that ."

Sam ; " Does Ari know ? "

"Of course "

Sam then blurted out a worry that had been on his mind . " He has to kiss me in Act 2 "

This was indeed in the script and in rehearsals Ari had planted a token peck in the general direction of Sam's cheek . Chemino had said nothing , but the script directions were specific - a long passionate kiss was called for - and was integral to the narrative as being the moment in which the lovers recognize the strength of their feelings while facing that they were being **** to leave each others orbit . Chemino frowned slightly at the polite peck but gave an impatient carry-on gesture immediately after .

Lois trilled " What , you think you might make him gay ?"

"No . I thought he might be disgusted to think I would enjoy it "

"You worry way too much about everything . Ari will kiss you without a second thought .Now are we going to the shops or not . ?"

" Can I choose ? "

" That's the whole idea .... girl "

"Can you pretend it is you picking things out . I want to get a pair of panties too ."

" God ! you do have some distance to go if you can't pick up a pair of panties in a lingerie department . Of course I will be your ' beard ' and I can't wait to see what awful taste you have - 'though they say gay guys have good taste ! "

This entire conversation had been taut for Sam , but by the end he felt tremendous relief . To be able to talk about his feelings - especially to a girl . No more secret to worry about ( well , excluding his parents and the rest of the school ) and leaping ahead maybe now he could wear stuff that was a bit feminine - pants that were stretchy and close fitting and tops with rounded necklines perhaps .
