The steak was a delicious and you get to know Amber

Cutting the steak open using a hopefully clean set of plastic utensils, you were pleasantly surprised to see that it was cooked to a nice medium well.

“Right, if you were part of Bennett’s team, you probably had another me’s steaks before,” she says almost to herself.

“Over cooked on one side while raw on the other,” you confirmed and winced at your ungentle words. Her face got red before she pouted.

“The handbook should’ve been more clear!” She defended herself. She then relaxed, turned away, and coughed. “Sorry. At the house of the people who bought me, the cook Sanji, corrected my cooking style with a vengeance.” You raised an eyebrow.

“Sanji as in Sanji of the StrawHat Pirates from One Piece?” She nods, causing to get even more of a confused look. “That’s weird, the Sanji I know would never be able to say something negative to a woman. He would be spending his time swooning over them instead.”

“‘He?’ Sanji was a woman,” Amber clarifies.

“Huh… must’ve run afoul of Ivankov or the owner got a female version,” you shrug as you dig into the meal. You must’ve not realized just how hungry you were because soon your knife clinks against the empty plate as you try to go for another piece. “Thanks for the food.”

“No problem,” she says as she stands there shifting her feet awkwardly.

“So how did you get here?” You ask her, hoping to break the silence. “If that is not too much to ask?”

“Well, the people who bought me were big on making sure their characters were perfect,” Amber explains with a scowl. “They had me babysitting their kid one day when I tripped on a toy car and fell into one of those Lego things. See this scar I have?” She pointed at a long but faint cut on her face that ran from her forehead, past her left eye, and ended by the corner of her mouth. “I caught the corner of one of the bricks and it cut enough to scar. They bought another Amber and tied me up in the garbage the next day.”

“What assholes,” you say as you think about what else to say. “I’m sorry that happened. They should’ve called my employers to pick you up. Heck they could’ve just taken you to a salon and the scar would’ve been gone in seconds.”

“Your employer?”

“Yeah Reintegration Corp, we save abandoned or unwanted characters and find them a new home,” you say with a salesman’s smile out of habit. You quickly **** a normal smile back on your face, cursing your dad’s business training and the customer service training Rein Corp gave you.

“That would’ve been better,” Amber sighed unhappily. “After some time surrounded by trash, I got dumped in this junk country.”

“Trash World,” You corrected and Amber blinked rapidly in surprise.

“World!?” She shouted at you, grabbing you by the shoulders. “This is an entire world just for garbage?!”

“Yes,” you answer. She holds you for a few seconds before looking at her hands and letting you go quickly.

“Sorry, I didn’t think it was a whole world,” She explains as she processes that revelation. “I knew it was a massive garbage dump since I traveled for two weeks in one direction before Miss Canary saved me from the Viper Joe mob.”

“Viper Joe?” You asked.

“They were a group of people who I ran into, they had those car things running,” Amber explained as she shuddered a bit. “They disappeared a month back without a trace, sort of like how the mermaid gang disappeared yesterday.”

The two of you continued to discuss a few things about your lives and the facts about the Amazonian Tribe and its history that Amber knows. That is until someone else knocked on the door.
