Chapter 89

What's next?
Last stop.
Activity seems to have increased since your visit to House Pegasus with the hustle and bustle only growing as you approach your last stop, the common dining hall.
Passing the doors of the expansive room, you find the large curtains pulled open, allowing light to pour in and reflect off the large glass spheres that hang from the ceiling. The light-colored stone and dark wooden framework shine with brilliance as students of all years and from every house fill the room, some in line to get food while many sit with friends and classmates. The room feels alive with activity as the noise echoes across the walls and spills into the hallway outside.
The notice board, located next to the main door you just entered, is filled with notes and pamphlets. The posts mostly consist of students seeking or offering tutoring or groups looking for new members. One is even a House Wyvern student looking to trade rare tomes. You quickly find an open spot to pin your last flyer and complete your work for the day before moving to join a line at one of the kitchens.
Sweet smells of freshly baked bread fill your nose and your stomach grumbled with hunger. Fortunately, the staff works diligently and soon you have collected your plate of food. Today's lunch is a generously sized flux spinach salad littered with various fruits and nuts accompanied by a small dark red loaf the server called Yeosin Bread.
Despite the dining hall being more crowded than any of your previous visits, you manage to find a seat where you don't feel like you are intruding too much on another group. Picking at your salad, you think about how to spend the rest of your day. The idea of finding your friends sounds appealing but you do have plans to spend tomorrow with them. Studying might be the smart choice, Harmony would certainly approve. You could report back to Ophelia that you had posted the flyers as she asked. Perhaps stopping by Professor Solomon's room where the curvy little gnome or possibly Noah could answer a few questions about your little side projects.
"Yeah, it's just gone." A girl's voice interrupts your thoughts, as three girls wearing the House Cerberus pin sit a few seats down from you at the long table. "I looked everywhere."
"Are you sure you didn't leave it somewhere?" One of her friends asks a bit skeptical.
"Why would I leave one shoe somewhere but bring the other back to my room?" The first girl protests. "I'm telling you, either my roommate is playing a prank on me or someone went into our room and stole it. And I don't think Ela would do that. Or she would have come clean after having her laugh."
"You know, I had a scarf go missing the first day." Chimes in the third girl. "I went crazy looking for it until I decided I must have forgotten to pack it."
"No, I definitely brought it. I wore them the other day." The first girl assures her friend. "I remember seeing them both there the other day before class. Then it was gone when I went back to my room during lunch."
You try to focus on your lunch without staring at the girls, only occasionally glancing their way. The salad is refreshing while the red loaf tastes more like a smoked turkey leg than actual bread.
"Do you think we should mention it to Lucas?" The second girl asks with a smile.
"No way!" The first girl answers. "How dumb would I look without any sort of proof? Hi, I can't even keep up with my own shoes. I would die."
"But it would be an excuse to invite the hottest guy at school back to your room." The second girl teases.
"Your terrible." The third girl says flatly.
Their conversation isn't that interesting and you can't help but roll your eyes at the mention of Lucas, the House Cerberus Senior. You finish up your meal and excuse yourself to no one in particular as you stand, leaving the girls to continue their discussion of missing items and boys.
Even more students have filled the dining hall as you head for the door. A few have gathered around the notice board to examine the flyer you pinned up only moments ago. Making your way into the grand hallway outside, you consider your options for the remainder of the day. House Phoenix to your right and Professor Solomon's room to your left. Delmorgan and Seven Winds are also viable options.
How do you spend the last half of the day?
