Chapter 10
by PieceofCredence
Continue Lin's story or jump back to the present with Korra?
Mako comes to see his latest prisoner
Korra kneeled in her cell, leered at by the prostitutes and peddlers who'd been taken to this part of the precinct. There weren't any male criminals in this portion of the jail, thank god, but that didn't stop her fellow inmates from cat-calling her, or from commenting on how the police would have let her go if she'd just "sucked them off."
"Korra...what the hell is wrong with you?"
Korra looked up from the bricks in the floor, which she'd been staring at. She froze when she saw Mako, in full policeman's gear approaching. She turned away, trying to hide her breasts from him, even though he'd already seen them.
"Please go..." She said, eyes watering now that her ex-Boyfriend had found her in this state of undress.
"Korra, they are telling me you've been arrested for indecent exposure. And assaulting one of my officers!" Mako said.
"Yo-your officers?" Korra glanced back confused.
Mako let out a long sigh. "Chief Beifong retired today. I'm in charge now..."
Korra's tears grew as she processed this information, then she hobbled closer to the bars. "Please Mako, it was all a big misunderstanding...my clothes got damaged and then these two perverts picked me up and brought me here and all these people saw me naked and anyway you have to get me out of here."
He stared at her for a long time and then sighed. "My first act as police chief can't be to **** my position, Korra...you are going to have to have a trial like everyone else."
Korra shook her head. If the details of what had happened got out, no one would ever respect her again. If they ever had in the first place...
"I can't have this conversation with you. If I bring you some clothing, you promise not to try to escape, right?"
Korra nodded, numbly.
Mako stormed off and returned a few minutes later with an extra one of his undershirts. Of course, without a bra, her nipples would be pronounced against the white cloth, but it was the best he could do on short notice. He unlocked the cell door, then removed Korra's bindings one by one.
"I'll turn around," Mako said, although he remained within the cell to make sure Korra didn't do anything rash.
Deep within him, frustration burned. He cared about Korra, but she had away of attracting trouble. It did not surprise him that she had attacked one of his men, in a fit of panic or frustration. She'd never appreciated authority, no matter who it came from.
An old resentment burned up inside of him. She had sabotaged his and Asami's relationship, because of her impulsiveness and selfishness. And then she had dumped him, only to end up with Asami a couple years later. He had always wondered if she had done it on purpose, if it had all been a means of getting him out of way and getting to the rich girl with the gorgeous looks.
It made him feel emasculated like he hadn't been enough for Asami, and every time the two of them shared a private joke, he pretended that he wasn't afraid it was about him.
"I'm dressed now." Korra said, crossing her arms over her chest.
He turned back to her and tried to stay his emotions. She was still a beautiful woman. So was Asami. It seemed like almost like a crime against men, that they should take each other out of the running for men around the world.
"Asami is outside." He said. "She's already posted your bail. Your satomobile is material evidence, so it is impounded. Please don't leave the city until we get this cleared up."
Korra nodded ashamed. Right now, she just wanted to be held in Asami's arms, to smell her perfume and feel safe and at home.
After another degrading march through the front area of the precinct, where she quivered under the glances of the pervy officers, she was finally outside and almost home.
Then she saw the look on Asami's face.
It was a look of humiliation. Korra had humiliated her girlfriend. She had just ruined their relationship. This one moment of stupidity would stand out when they both looked back.
Korra started sobbing and Asami, ashamed, didn't exit the car to comfort her, but allowed Mako to guide her to the passenger seat.
"I'll see what I can do." Mako said, addressing Asami. She looked up and was surprised to see lust in his eyes. The two of them had never slept together before Korra had kissed Mako, and she sensed that he felt he was owed another chance at...her.
She turned away without responding and drove off.
Once they got home, she marched inside, tossing her keys on the table by the door and hurrying to the bedroom to get ready for her next meeting.
"A-Asami...can we talk?" Korra asked, appearing gingerly at the doorway.
"I'm sorry, I can't. I have a meeting with Varrick, and I have to explain to him why his former employee is missing. Then I have to talk to my lawyer about how we can avoid having you sent to prison."
Korra squirmed. "Asami, it was an accident-"
Asami wheeled on her and Korra saw the rage of someone who knew she'd been lied to. Then Asami marched over to the dresser and pulled out an envelope. She shoved it into Korra's hands and then turned away to finish applying new make-up.
Korra stared at the envelope and then slipped a hand inside, removing a photo of herself, leaving the shady bar where she'd visited that glory hole. It was a photo of her fleeing with an embarrassed look on her face.
"What were you doing there, Korra?" Asami asked, tersely as she slipped on new boots.
Korra stuttered, unable to formulate a rational explanation. There was none, she'd almost cheated on her girlfriend, for no other reason than her own curiosity.
"I'm so-" She began.
"Don't. I should have known this would happen..." Asami said. "After all, you made Mako cheat on me, why wouldn't you cheat me..."
"But I didn't!" Korra said, her voice cracking but her eyes too red to cry anymore.
"Now whoever took that photo is probably going to **** us. And I'm going to have to pay millions just so the news don't find out what a whore you are..." Asami said, forcing on her second boot.
Korra felt to the floor in grief and Asami stood up, staring at her prone form.
"Not that the whole city hasn't already seen it first-hand..." Asami said. Then she turned away and headed back to the office, leaving her crumpled girlfriend to mutter apologies into the carpet.
Does Asami meet Yan on the way to her meeting?
