Chapter 13

What now indeed?
Movie Night Questionarie
((AN - I liked the idea of 20 questions but wanted to put a different spin on the idea))
"What now? Hmmm." Raven cocked her head to think, ".... I suppose we need to find a way to pass the time."
"Cupid was nice enough to give us that rec/living room." Cole said, making a thumbing motion towards the door that lead to it, "I suppose we could take a look at what they thought to give us. Maybe movie night?" He hadn't looked over the room too much but he had spied a DVD player so there had to be something to play on it.
“Hmm. I like my reading.” Raven said before walking last him to the door, “But I’ll have ample time to read after this. And it will be the first time I don’t need to argue with four or more people over movies.”
Cole moved to put his plate away along with checking to see they had popcorn before catching up. The living room was pretty well set up; large couch, pair of recliners, even a beanbag chair. A large flat screen TV was on one wall, complete with a gaming console and DVD player. Or was it blue-ray? Cole really didn't know just put the disc in the machine and watch the movie was the type he liked, not messing around with menus. Matching computers off to the side, probably for gaming. The machines in the office and hidden hero room could do any amount of work or research they needed; these could probably Co-op games pretty well.
As for the movies, the selection was pretty wide though both could see certain tastes were featured. More westerners, war setting, action-drama, and some old Hollywood comedies; Cole approved. While Raven was responsible for more fantasy, gothic, horror and morbid action. Equal parts romance movies though. And while they had at the very least withstand each other, movies are among one of the biggest things to argue over. Or would have been, as Raven decided to move ahead to cut the arguments off.
“We’re adults. Not children bickering over ‘my sleep over, my movie’ so I propose that instead of trying to convince each other which movie would be better, we take a more… sensible idea.” Raven said before turning to her collection, “Pick out ten movies you’d like to watch tonight or wouldn’t mind to see.” she instructed as she got out her choices.
Cole did so, not realizing Raven had planned this to learn more about him. While one could learn about a person in their tastes in movies, the little game she had plan should help be an ice breaker. At the least, should help whittle away some of his lingering questions… or the movies. Yes that's right, she didn't want to actually learn more about him, this was for the movies..., right? One didn't need to visit her mindscape to picture all her emotion-clones facepalming.
“Alright, got my ten.” Cole called out as he turned to face her again. Couple westerns, older movies, at least 1 war movie; about what one could expect really. Raven instructed him to sit as she took her own spot on the carpet, her legs shifted to one side. Cole just sat on his rear, one leg still raised up so he could rest an arm on his knee. They both placed a row a DVDs in front of them as Raven had asked.
“This is something the Titans started doing." Rave explained, as she absentmindedly organized her choices, "So we wouldn’t strangle each other, or blow out a wall. It’s a sort of mixed take on those question asking party games. You’ll ask me a question, and I have to answer it truthfully.”
“So truth or dare?” Cole said, scratching his head. Any question from a character he read about as a kid and remembered only cliff notes versions of. He knew guys that would kill to be in a position like this.
“Sort of but no dare. Instead, if say you want to skip the question," one of the DVD cases in front of Cole was covered in energy and floated away. "I get to take one of your movies away. We keep this up over the course of twenty questions each that is. Person that has the most movies at the end wins. And gets to pick any movie they want, from their remaining pool.” Raven returned the case she took back to Cole. "There's no limit on the questions asked, but we tended to ask about our selves, likes dislikes, history and so on. It wasn't hypothetical questions like 'Would kiss Starfire' but rather 'have you kissed Starfire' if that helps."
“Ah is the goal is to ask awkward questions to take away movies" Cole muttered as he cupped his chin, "But tick off the table and you'd get bombarded with the same type of question.”
“Correct.” Raven replied with a small clap, "Mind you this was made up for Teams, not solo. So it may be a bit awkward. If BB asked something stupid, we'd just gang up on him for a turn. Seeing a bunch of his movies taken out of play tended to teach him pretty fast." She gave a small smile at the memory.
"What's to stop someone from lying." He asked, his eyebrows furrowing.
"Nothing really. Though if you think you can lie to an Empath by all means do try." Raven stated as her powers flared around her before she dismissed it with a wave, "However this was also used as a trust exercise. A way to help rebuild trust towards each other and to develop boundaries of what could or couldn't be asked. That said if you were caught in a lie with a late question, that would cost you four movies." the sorceress explained.
"That makes a bit of sense..." He thought, milling it over in his head. Cole started thinking about questions as he looked over Raven's movies. Couple horror, at least one mystery, something horroristically artys..., was that a romance she slipped in? "Hmm how to start this off?" he thought to himself. Well.... why not start off big, after all Raven did bring it up. He was sure he was going to be thrown through the wall for this but hey, Raven was the one that put the ball in his court about it.
“So...., HAVE you kissed Starfire?” He asked, a light flush creeping up his ears.
“Yes. French. Tongue was involved.” Raven bluntly answered without a moment's wait.
"…. Wait...," Cole said after his brain and mouth remembered how to work. "Really?" He wasn't sure what surprised him more, the fact she HAD or the fact she had ANSWERED with the subtly of a sledge hammer to a tiny nail.
"I had figured you'd latch onto that part of the explanation." Raven said with a 'tut tut' motion of her hand, "But yes. Full tongue, and she has a long one. I will say that her wanting to learn a Language, hard liquor, and a dare were ALL involved in that. I'm not entirely proud of that but..., Star speaks German now." she finished with a pair of fingers at her temple and a sigh.
"Wait you know German?" Cole blurted out with an ask.
"Yes. Yes I do. Now, should I count that as two asks?" Raven said, a sense of coy climbing into her voice, "As it WAS a rule that if someone was so surprised they asked multiple questions, they lost a movie or the person they asked got a bonus question. Hmmm..." Her fingers drummed away at the carpet.
"....Okay that is dirty but fair. I suppose I did walk into that. Up to you on how to punish me for it." Cole said just sitting back down, not even realizing he'd gotten to his knees in shock.
Raven simply selected one of his movies and sent it back to the holding rack. That done with, she sat and thought of a question. One that wasn't on the same level as what he had just asked but something close. "Hmmm..., alright. Is this your first time in a relationship?" She asked.
"Uh... hmm fair. Yessssssssss?" When it was clear she wasn't buying it, Cole grumbled, "Okay look I've been with women but it was mainly one night stands. The most 'relationship' I've been in was a crush on a girl in middle school, before I had to move away. Is that good enough?" Cole asked to which Raven simply nodded.
His turn again, and if Raven was going to be a bit like that well why not go for the throat here. She left the topic open. "SO. You and Beastboy..." he started to ask.
"We fucked."
".....I'm sorry come again?" As Cole had to reboot his brain for the second time in a couple minutes. There was that sledgehammer of bluntness again.
“We dated on and off. He offered after awhile." Raven explained with a tone like she was describing the weather, "It was pleasant, and no. I forbid him from shapeshifting during. But I suppose you've been sitting on that question since breakfast haven't you.” Her eyes narrowed.
"... yeah okay...., that has been kinda lingering in my mind." Cole admitted looking away from eye contact long enough for Raven to mouth 'OMG I can't believe I just...' though when he turned back she was stone faced. He wasn't opposed to girls with experience, in fact he kinda liked that to a degree. But Raven's reply still threw him for a loop. Parts of the net would flip their heads over this..., wait if the multiverse was real, was this the absolute REAL Raven? Cause there had been a couple of them...
"My turn. ....., How many Women have you been with?" She asked after sitting there thinking for a bit.
"Geeeeeeeeze.... okay that one is pay back.....," Cole breathed out the sigh through his teeth before thinking, ".....Twelve? Maybe? I'm not a Casanova but drinks and big strong guy can get girls into bed. I'm not PROUD of it mind you but...., well I wouldn't have signed up for Cupid if anything was actually there besides a one night fling." For his question, Cole thought a bit more about what to ask. He'd heard rumors in passing but nothing really concrete. He'd stopped knowing much about the IP when he got into high school.
"Who...., on your team have you not dated?" He asked, carefully wording it.
"Skip."
"......wait really?" Cole processed her words before blurting out the response. So admitting she kissed Starfire and had fucked Beastboy were okay but the dating thing was too much? But Raven just had her plain look on so Cole wasn't going to get anything out of her. He just shifted on of the gorier looking titles out of the way before awaiting her next question.
This back and forth continued for awhile, each one carefully choosing questions and answers and whittling away at each other's movie choices. Since THOSE types of questions were the opening salvo, they slowly started getting into more mundane if character building questions.
Cole learned Raven;
- Actually liked Tofu
- Liked Rainy Nights(Cole figured that was just a whole Goth thing)
- Liked Mysteries movies(Comedies too)
- Knew about the Legasus thing(It was an awkward phase when she lost her powers...)
- "SKIP" when asked about the costume still being around.
- Still kept a few cute toys around("MLP.... you will shut up or I will **** you Cole.")
- Had Piercings ("Where...." Skip)
- Her skin was due to being half demon.
- Gem held her demon side in check but wasn't that important these days, she wore it for stability.
For her Part, Raven learned about Cole;
- Loved Spicy Food
- Liked Rainy Nights but not Thunderstorms unless they were distant
- Got his taste in movies from his mom and dad
- Had a nick name when it came to boxing(Something she already knew but wanted to ask)
- Couldn't actually hold liquor for the life of him.
- Liked reading though his time from boxing kept him from reading as much as he would have liked to.
- Lacked Tattoos and Piercings.
- Went to college for Engineering, didn't finish. ("Why?" Skip)
- Couldn't cook terribly fancy but could cook enough. ("look when you keep burning Chicken Parmesan, you kinda have to admit your limits." "Oh.... for who?" Skip)
The little 'game' was turning out to be more fun and insightful than either had expected. Cole was earnest in his responses and even Raven opened up a bit over certain topics. There was one question she'd been saving..., well two of them. One to lead into the other, or at least set the stage. With a breath to get ready, Raven posed the question to Cole.
“So...., what type of boxer were you?"
Raven didn't know much about boxing but over the course of her training with Robin and other martial Artists, she'd picked up some things about the 'sweet science', namely there were about 5 overarching styles. While people could float into and out of styles depending on a match, their core ideals and personality tended to hold them to a core style. She only had a brief understanding of them though.
Pressure/Swarmer fighters were adept at diving in to place a flurry of blows. Out Boxers were good with timing and using their legs and reach to fight. Sluggers were die hard, brash one punch combatants. Counter Boxers were more cool and calculating to land the perfect blow mid swing. And the oddly named Boxer-Puncher who never really settled on any one style, being a fluid mix of what they liked or needed.
As Boxers took their style based of their personalities and likes; Raven wondered what sort of style Cole used?
(AN - Help choose Cole's Fighting style, and this might help further cement his personality in ways too.)
What does he answer?
Cartoon Waifu's
Wedding bells ring, Birds sing, and Love seems unexpected.
An unexpected marriage between people from worlds apart. Yet, will this odd marriage last? Or will the two seek to break free and seek others out? Or will the two grow to love one another? Perhaps even more than just each other?
