Diverging Paths (Day 2, Part 2)

“So, what is everybody going to be doing today?” Heather wondered.

Zack Bishop glanced over at his aunt Mallory, who gave him a small smile in return. This morning, he had gone to talk to her about what had happened, and had wound up kissing her. Turns out she didn’t regret anything.

“Playing video games.” Gavin shrugged.

“Denied!” Monica spoke up, patting Gavin on the shoulder.

“What? But- Mom!” Gavin protested, looking to Diane.

“Don’t look at me. Monica’s the one who took your game.” Diane smirked, clearly happy that her son was off the video games,

“You’ll be with me today, Gavin. I’ll make sure you have a fun day. Maybe we could hit up the beach?” Monica suggested.

“Could I come?” Kurt piped up.

“Actually, Kurt, I’d rather you help Logan and I out with a project of ours. We’re trying to build a rack for all of Robert’s grill things.” Daniel said.

Kurt looked beyond disappointed at that news.

“You have a boat, right, Robert?” Gabriella asked.

“Correct. It’s a nice one, too.” Robert nodded.

“I was thinking maybe I could go on a boating trip with Jared. Spend some quality mother-son time.” Gabriella said.

“Oh, that sounds like a great idea!” Vanessa gasped, “Mind if Brandon and I tag along?”

Brandon’s head jerked up, surprised to hear his name.

“Not at all!” Gabriella smiled.

“I was thinking about going for a hike. Would either of my daughters like to join me?” Sarah asked, glancing between Ashley and Hannah, who were both being uncharacteristically silent, “Fine. At least my husband will go with me.”

Sarah turned towards Damon, who looked sheepish.

“I kind of volunteered to help Daniel with his project.” Damon admitted.

“I could come with you.” Zack offered. Sarah brightened.

“Oh, perfect idea!” Sarah exclaimed.

“Well, I have to head into town, if anybody wants anything.” Robert said. Taylor perked up.

“Oh, I need to hit a shoe store. I completely forgot to bring flip flops.” Taylor said.

Robert chuckled.

“Alright, you can come with me, then.” Robert said.

Mallory Minotti rubbed her thighs together as she stared at her nephew and now lover. Secret lover. It occurred to her last night while Zack was fucking her brains out that she was cheating on Dario.

She had instantly realized she didn’t care.

As the group began to finalize their plans and scatter, Mallory found herself wanting to talk to Zack, but he was descended upon by that big-titted blond friend of Monica’s, Sarah, who Zack had eagerly agreed to join on a hike.

Mallory hated the burning feeling in her stomach. Jealousy.

“Mal.” a familiar voice said, and Mallory turned to see Monica standing there, side by side with the skinny blond boy who’s phone Monica had commandeered.

“Everything OK?” Mallory checked, suddenly feeling like her feelings for Zack were a bit exposed.

“Yep, I was just wondering if you wanted to come down to the beach with Gavin and I.” Monica asked. Mallory shook her head.

“No, I’m fine.” Mallory said, suddenly not wanting to be in her little sister’s presence. Maybe it was because Mallory found it hard to look Monica in the eye after she had taken Zack’s virginity.

Well, Zack had practically given it to her, Mallory thought wistfully, but that was another matter.

Monica and Gavin moved away from Mallory, and Mallory felt a touch on her shoulder. She wheeled to see Gabriella standing there, looking at her knowingly.

Because she did know, after all. Mallory’s first and blackest secret.

“Finding it hard to look Mo in the eye?” Gabriella guessed. Mallory said nothing.

“I fucked one of Jared’s friends once.” Gabriella revealed, “It was hard to look my son in the eye after that one, but I moved past it.”

“I’m sure you did.” Mallory said in a low voice.

“What was that?” Gabriella asked, brow furrowing.

Mallory scanned the room, ignoring the Latina’s angry remark.

She saw that Gavin had returned to Zack’s side, and they were joined by Chloe.

A further examination showed that Monica was missing from the room. Odd.

“Where are we going?” Monica asked impatiently as Kurt led her through the cabin.

He’d come up to her and said he wanted to show her something, and she’d agreed to come see whatever it was he wanted to show her.

“I just figured you’d like to have some quality time with me.” Kurt winked. Monica stopped following.

“I’ve already told you that I’m not doing anything with you.” Monica reiterated.

“You say that, sure, but yet you followed me as soon as I asked you to, and you haven’t left yet.” Kurt pointed out. Monica folded her arms, then realized that that only emphasized her bust and dropped her arms.

“I’m not sure why you’re so hesitant to do things with me.” Kurt said in a low voice, drawing nearer to Monica.

She took a decisive step back.

“Because I don’t like you. You’re annoying, you screw with my son and his friends for no particular reason other than some sick enjoyment, and you’re always trying to get into one woman or another’s pants.” Monica snapped.

“Like yours, you mean?” Kurt grinned.

“Precisely.” Monica said venomously, and turned to walk away.

“Mrs. Bishop!” Kurt called, and Monica slowed. An undeniable part of her liked the way he said that.

Monica glanced over her shoulder.

Kurt gave her a wave goodbye, and Monica rolled her eyes and left the self-proclaimed playboy alone.

A/N Bit of a shorter chapter than usual, but it sets up the major themes and events of Day 2.

All of the mentioned events will be getting page time dedicated to them, but I’m curious, which event would you guys like to see first? It doesn’t affect any of my plans, just which order the scenes come in, so if you’re particularly interested in a certain storyline, feel free to leave a comment with that interest explained, and I’ll try to arrange the scenes that way.
