Joe checked his bag to make sure he had the modifier script he’d just been given that week, for being with the company 10 years he received a universal default modifier script. Default modifiers are similar to the regular default script that leaves golems in a compliant state with no persona to simulate and memories, however when being made into modifiers, this state attaches itself to the regular personality script of a golem, deactivating the simulated persona, but leaving the default modifier free to access the golem's memories, abilities and even make them emulate some behavior if ordered to do so, the same things a golem with a default script can do, but with more knowledge.

This modifier is very useful for debugging and golem maintenance; technicians traditionally had to memorize a very specific conversation to put golems into a maintenance state, not to mention, for security reasons, every conversation only worked on the specific golem it was generated for. However this modifier was different as it worked on any golem from DirtWorks, their scripts recognized a private key in the script modifier that made it bypass golem lock restrictions, effectively being a tool to jailbreak golems, It was no surprise that only tenured employees like Joe got them.

Once Joe double checked his equipment and his schedule for today, he got out of his car and walked to the 8 story hospital, his tablet informed him that for today’s maintenance sessions he’d been scheduled an appointment with each doctor to give him enough time to go through the checkup—although in reality he’d be the one checking up on the fake humans today.

As Joe passed hospital security on the entrance they raised their eyebrows when taking a look at his backpack’s contents but let him in anyway. Joe then got in the elevator and double checked in his tablet the floor and office number of his first golem for the day.
