Not for her.

At the shops, people already looked at both of you oddly. Lisa got some glares, but you were evaluated.

First thing first: new clothes.

Lisa was surprised you headed to the cheapest store there for them. Next were shower supplies.

She looked over the process and frowned. “I didn’t know these things could be so cheap. It’s always been so expensive getting them before.”

“Not for me. I’ve been doing my own shopping for a while, remember, using money I got from local jobs. You lot have been getting the brand names while I haven’t.”

“But I was just going by what they said.”

“Please, you should know the youngest two can’t be trusted. Mark is concerned about his image, so he feels he has to be seen as rich, thus wearing expensive clothing. Mary? She’s what, 5 years older than I? I don’t know her that well.”

Both of you took your time shopping, and Lisa even brought some stuff the household needed instead of doing so much on the weekend.

After a while Lisa asked you “Why is everyone glaring at me?”

“Because rumors about yesterday got out, and now I have to buy enough stuff to cover my basic needs, which is probably confirming things in their minds. You can guess what they are thinking. Things like ‘destroying her son’s property’, ‘going to kick him out as soon as he turned 18, without a damn good reason’ and ‘raising a kid like Zack.’ Maybe even a bit about Sarah as well. The fact you are paying for everything will be lessening the hostility.”

Going into a second hand store he got some sewing equipment, a first aid kit and stationary. The first two would really help him. Lisa was stunned at how cheap things were there! Almost as an afterthought you added a water bottle and some other things, telling her “I think it would be best if I was out of the house as much as possible for a while.”

After buying that stuff it was time to pack the car.

Thinking a bit you tell her “I think we might want to have something to eat first.”
