Chapter 60 by Felixfalck Felixfalck

Does Cheshire win?

No

On her current tile, Cheshire only needed to roll a three or higher to cross the finish line. The game which had been seemingly out of reach was suddenly very possible to win, if not even probably. But if the game taught her one thing, it was to not take things for granted. Despite two thirds of the die being adequate for her to win, the odds still felt as though they were against her. Perhaps a symptom of always getting the shorter end of the stick, it'd be difficult NOT to be a pessimist.

Looking over at Kitty, it was fairly obvious how crushed she felt. Not just because she had to come to terms with a guaranteed loss, similarly to how Cheshire had felt the past couple of rounds. But the fact that she also knew there was something she could've done differently, that fact alone was enough to break her. In the case of both Bitch and Cheshire, the game was random and the feeling of losing was more digestible knowing that, in the end, it all came down to chance. Dumb luck. Not for Kitty though. Sure, she'd been put in the winning position by pure luck, but her defeat didn't involve neither good or bad luck. Just a moment of poor decision making. One reckless, thoughtless action, and her entire life felt as though it'd been taken from her. The life she found increasingly difficult to remember.

But what has happened, has happened. There's no point in moping about, especially for Cheshire who suddenly found herself at the helm of the game. With her throw, she could decide the outcome of the game right then and there. No lottery winning ticket could ever come close to the level of excitement she was currently feeling. If she won, she'd have the chance to experience and exploit what would essentially be an omnipotent power. At least that's what they'd been lead to believe, seeing how the game had the power to alter and corrupt them all in various, vile ways.

"You gonna roll that thing, or are you already celebrating in there?"

Bitch pointed to her own forehead to emphasize her point. Cheshire had been lost in thought for a while now, and the girls were clearly getting impatient.

"Uh. Yea. Sorry. I'll roll.."

Other than her friends being annoyed with her, Cheshire especially felt bad for being "scolded". In it's wake, she tossed the die across the table, watching intently while the sting of her talking-to lingered.

All eyes fell on the die as it came to a standstill. Most invested in the outcome of her throw would obviously be Bitch. Being only one tile away from the finish-line herself, Cheshire's potential misfortune here effectively meant that Bitch had won, seeing that she didn't "pull a Kitty". Perhaps she was wise to expect it, but the die still only showed a measly one. Thanks to her friend's fuck-up, and Cheshire's poor luck, Bitch had managed to clinch the game.

Meanwhile, Cheshire sat dumbfounded staring at the board. Her piece had moved towards the final blue tile. The girl felt as though she should be upset. She felt as though she'd lost the game twice now. But deep down ..she was happy. The idea of conceding herself, her control, her whole life to the wish of Bitch just felt right. The responsibility of getting the wish for herself wasn't one she wanted. Perhaps better late than never, but in that moment Cheshire finally mustered up the courage to chicken out. Surrendering herself to the game's whim the last time around had been exhilarating for sure, but the act of chickening out felt much more so. It was the final step for her to perform before she could completely give in to her desire, her desire to be completely devoted to whoever claimed her.

"I chicken out"

"Might as well. I'm not making the same mistake that miss stupid did over here"

Kitty was still in shock from what had just happened and didn't even bother to react to Bitch's teasing comment. Not that it mattered. In a bit, they'd all be back to the lives Bitch had wished for them. Kitty had zero trust in her friend at this point. Cheshire also expected the wish to be less than favorable, but that was also somewhat exciting to her. She'd relinquished control and was now completely at the mercy of her mast- ..Of Bitch.

The game board lit up in that familiar, eerie light.

"Player 1 has chickened out. Player 2 will commence their turn"

Cheshire's game piece lost it's color and became a dull grey, indicating that it was no longer in play. Quickly thereafter, Bitch performed the obligatory final throw. If the nature of her victory wasn't annoying enough already, her final throw landed on a six.

The same light that appeared a few times over the course of the game returned for the final time. This time however, it was much brighter. It became brighter and brighter until it eventually consumed everything and everyone in the room.
