Midnight madness

Near midnight you, and others, are woken up by a scream of pain and a bang as someone tries to open your door.

Going out you move the chair from under the door handle.

Mark, Sarah and Lisa also emerge from their rooms, trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

Squatting down you see some blood on the ground.

Smiling on the inside you tell them “I figured Zack would try something, and took measures. Tacks sticky-taped to the inside of the door handle and a chair under it on the inside."

You point them out and add, “Why the fuck would he be so eager to break in? All I’ve got here that he might want . . . is . . . the hard drive! Shit!”

Mark went and found Zack in the bathroom, bleeding from the side of a hand and trying to bandage it.

Well, Mark was NOT very happy. The fact Zack was after the hard drive meant there was probably something on it.

Mark growled out in a voice that showed he clearly wished to yell at Zack, “Why the fuck did you try to break into the room Glen was sleeping in?”

Zack had no answer.

You come and frown. “****? No. Greed? Too risky. Afraid of something? That could drive him to risk it, but the only there that might cause issues is the hard drive. But why not wait until tomorrow to swipe it while I’m still at school with the woodwork club?”

You think for a moment. “Ah, he was afraid I would stash it in my school locker for safe keeping. But when would he have had time to use it for illegal things, and why? It would be easy to hide things from a general user. A hidden folder would be enough.”

A moment later you figure it out. “When I was serving detention after school for not doing my homework. That would be the only time. Using my computer after you gave me a perverted reputation would make people believe the stuff on there was downloaded by me.”

A moment later you smile. “The old school keeps a record of record of who served detention and when. The files would also have time and date of download in the metadata.”

Zack swore as he took a swing at you, but you just stepped back. Sadly for Zack, he instinctively used his injured hand and could not halt it before he hit the wall. He screamed out in pain again.

Mark was getting pissed.

“It is too bloody late to continue this, and I’m in no fucking mood for any more chaos. Lisa, take Zack to emergency. Even I can tell he needs stitches.”

You get serious. “I know basic first aid and might be able to help.”

Zack might hate you, but allowed you to apply first aid to his hand. Lisa quickly got dressed and drove off with him.

Sarah went back to bed, but before turning in himself Mark looked at you as you started cleaning up “Why not go back to bed now and clean it latter?”

“I don’t want the blood to set. It is almost impossible to clean when it does, and I don’t think you fancy bloodstains in your house.”

He nodded and went back to bed.

You not only cleaned the bathroom, but also the blood in the hallway carpet.

Zack would be causing himself problems.

Hmm, you might actually have to get a locker after all. Not having one when he tries to find it for the hard drive would raise questions as to you lying.

You think for a moment. Maybe you could just stash a decoy hard drive there, in case he did manage to break in.

With that thought in mind you went back to bed.
