Chapter 19

Does anything happen when you get to literature class?
It looks like Daisy found a new person to overwhelm...
As I approach the literature classroom, I can already hear Daisy's voice. At least that means she found someone else to talk to before I got here. Well, that was the thought I initially had before I walked into the room and saw the poor, unfortunate soul that she's talking to. When I walk in, I immediately pinpoint Daisy in the middle of the room. When my eye follows her gaze, I find myself staring at the back of a head coved in shining silver. It doesn't take a genius to know it's Katia. It also doesn't take a genius to know that a transfer student who speaks English as a second language isn't the best audience for Daisy's ramblings. As I get closer, my theory is confirmed when I notice Katia looks like her brain is about to overload as she tries to keep up with Daisy.
I should probably help her out. If it were anyone else, I would let them fend for themselves, but I feel bad for Katia, so I decide I'll give her a break. I walk up to the two of them and do my best to project over Daisy's voice.
"Katia! I didn't know you were in this class!" I say warmly.
Both of the girls turn to look at me. Katia simultaneously gives me a look of relief and joy.
"Matt! It is good to see you again! I am glad we have another class together!"
"Daisy? Would you mind if I borrowed Katia? I need to talk to her about something," I say as I turn to the petite blonde.
"Actually, we were already getting to know each other, but you can definitely join in if you want!" She responds back.
Okay, 1, I would bet a hundred bucks this girl can't tell me a single thing about Katia, and 2, hell no I'm not going to join in.
"Actually, Daisy, it's really important. I'd like to talk to her alone," I say instead of my initial thought.
Daisy seems upset, but she quickly gets over it and begins talking to the person on the other side of her. As soon as she turns away, I gesture to Katia, telling her to follow me. I lead her to my usual seat in the class, conveniently where there is another empty seat. Katia sits down and gives a concerned look. Funny, I thought she would be happier.
"What did you need to tell me, Matt? Is something wrong?" Ah, that's why.
"Calm down, Katia. Everything's fine."
"Then what important thing did you want to talk to me about?" She asks in a confused tone.
"Well, it was very important to me that you didn't end up stuck listening to Daisy. Is that important enough for you?"
It seems that Katia finally understands what I'm saying. I can't tell if it's because I did something nice or because it took her so long to realize what I meant, but Katia blushes after she gets my message. I have to admit, it's pretty cute.
"Th-thank you, Matt."
Now that that's over, Katia and I are able to chat for a bit without worry. Katia seems to open up a bit more too, which is nice to see. Today, she's wearing another one of those overall dress things, but this one is paired with a bright yellow top. I guess that's kind of her style, at least for now. It doesn't really give off an "E-Girl" vibe (I can't believe I just used that phrase), so we'll see how long it lasts. Oh, that actually reminds me...
"Have you been having anymore of those headache?"
"Actually, yes. It is funny that you say that. I do not usually get headaches, but I have had them multiple times today. I have no idea why. Perhaps I am allergic to something?" Katia says as she massages her temple for extra emphasis.
Considering that this is an unusual occurrence for her, I wouldn't be shocked if the Random Remote was the culprit. But that brings up the question: why is the remote giving Katia headaches? Like I said yesterday, no one else I've used the remote on has shown any signs of mental pain, at least not like this. I wish I could help Katia, but for now, I'm at a loss...
Katia doesn't seem too bothered by it, as she continues to truck on despite the apparent issues. As the professor walks in, she quickly turns away from me and begins getting out her stuff for class. My literature teacher is Professor Warren, who kind of seems like one of those pretentious poetry people to me. He likes to go on and on about the different themes and symbols in whatever we're reading, though I often have my doubts about the validity of his claims. Anyway, he's not really my favorite teacher, but he's fine. It's not like I could use the remote on him even I did hate him though. Luckily, I don't have that desire, so it's not a big deal. There are some attractive girls in this class aside from Daisy and Katia, but I feel like I've been dealing with so many women already recently, so I might wait a bit before I get into any other interesting ladies here.
I know I keep skipping over the classes themselves, but what can I say? School is boring. Even the power of the Random Remote couldn't make classical literature more fun to read. I'm sure some people like that kind of stuff, but it's not for me. As always, I keep an eye on the girls I've used the remote on in this class, but Katia just seems to be powering through her most recent headache while trying her best to follow along. Also, Daisy still hasn't shown any signs of change. It's been hours since she got that attribute, so why does she still have B cups? It seems like I ended up with two of my strangest subjects together in the same room.
Class ends and Katia and I walk down the hall together. She mostly asks me questions about what we just learned and gets me to clarify a few things she didn't understand. Eventually, we end up outside on the sidewalk, where we decide to split up for the day.
"Thank you for everything today, Matt. I am lucky to have you as a friend!" Aw, that's sweet. It seems Katia already considers me a friend.
"Of course, Katia. I'll see you next week," I respond with a warm smile.
"Of course! See ya, cutie!"
Suddenly, Katia does something I wasn't expecting: she strikes a cute poses. She picks one foot off the ground and arches her back. She then closes one eye and flashes a peace sign with a big smile. She almost looks like a real-life anime character posing like that. Between that pose and how she phrased her farewell, I'm a little stunned. Headache or not, the remote does seem to be affecting her.
Before I have a chance to respond, Katia comes out of the pose and stares at her own hands, looking incredibly confused.
"W-why did I just...?" She whispers just barely loud enough for me to hear. She then remembers that I'm here and blushes again. "I am sorry about that, Matt. I look forward to seeing you next week! Bye!"
And just like that, she heads off. Was it just me, or did it almost seem like Katia was aware of her odd behavior, even if just barely? It can't know for sure what she was going to say before she trailed off, but it seems like she noticed she was posing and second-guessed why she did it. I don't feel like anyone else has been that aware of the remote's effect on them. Sure, they can still notice when other people act strangely, but this level of self-awareness feels unique to Katia. And she's been having those headaches too... What's going on with her? I'll need to spend more time with her to see if she gets any worse. At least for now, she only seems mildly aware of what's wrong, which is better than nothing.
Trying my best to put those worries out of my mind, I head back to the bus stop and catch a ride home.
What happens at home?
